FUNCTION APPROACH DISCUSSION
The manager needs to first reply to the email sent by the complaining employee. The email should empathize with the employee at the same time and show concern about the organization’s desire to solve the problem and ensure employee happiness. In this email, the manager should invite the disgruntled employee for a meeting to solve the issue. During the meeting with the employee, the manager should listen to the employees’ problems showing empathy and care about her concerns. This will also be an opportunity for the manager to explain the company’s policy and culture concerning the issue. The manager should explain that even though the issues raised are genuine, the open office is meant to promote the culture of creativity in the sharing of ideas. Lastly, the manager should organize for a training and team-building exercise, which will ensure that the employees get along well with one another and promote teamwork, creativity, and sharing of new ideas at the workplace.
With the functional approach, the team members or employees within an organization can work with people in a given field, thus allows the sharing of ideas and knowledge, thus enabling individuals to learn new skills. This would be the most critical role the manager can use because an organization comprises of people from different cultural backgrounds and with different opinions and ideas. When these ideas are shared, one is capable of learning something new, thus becoming more productive not only to himself/herself but also to the organization. Sharing information is also vital as it makes the team finish a specified task on time. The employee should, therefore, try as much as she/he can to embrace the organizational structure that they have at the workplace.
