Genetically modified foods versus organic foods
People say that too much of something is dangerous. The eating lifestyle of Americans is very worrying, and it is mainly caused by what they consume daily. There are alot of negative impacts of GMOs on soil health and the environment. The support that organic foods are better than GM products is imperative as it promotes health and prevents environmental pollutions. The use of some GM crops has negative impacts on non-target organisms and soil and water ecosystems. For instance, the expansion of GM herbicide-tolerant corn and soy, which are twinned with herbicides, has destroyed much of the habitat ( Lynas, 2018 ). The argument tends to explain that GMOs have a negative impact on the environment and soil health because it has led to increased herbicide use. Persistent herbicides remain active in the soil for long periods, potentially causing soil and water contamination and adverse effects on non-target organisms.
The negative impact of GMOs on humans is very high as many people start developing cancerous diseases in which leads to deaths or permanent illnesses. It is a fact that many people assume the implications of GM foods on their health. Some of the effects are short-termed, while others are long-term. GMO foods have more potential to trigger allergic reactions because they contain genes from an allergen that prompts an allergic reaction ( Mahrus, 2019). In American society, there numerous people with allergic reactions that re brought by food consumption. Consuming GMO foods can contribute to the development of cancer because mutations in DNA cause the disease, and it is usually dangerous to introduce new genes into the body. The terminal illnesses that people tend to get typically are brought by the GM food consumption in which is hazardous to health.
The use of GM herbicide-tolerant crops has led to the evolution and spread of weeds that can no longer be killed by those herbicides. It has also led to the evolution of insects that are resistant to toxins in GM insect-resistant crops. GMOs can boost the crop’s resistance to disease or make it more tolerant to herbicides, which can negatively affect farmers—the reasons why people prefer organic foods mainly for sound rationale. Better taste-organically grown foods have a better taste because they are nourished, grown in a well-balanced soil. GM foods tend to have a tasteless feel, which cannot be compared to organic foods. The balance in soil nutrients is brought by the proper distribution in which organic foods support. Still, for GMOs, it is different as it cannot utilize the available natural nutrients. Organic manure is good for crops, but for GM crops, it needs more of artificialfertilizers, which has ad adverse impact on the environment and soil health. It is essential to avoid GMO-organically grown food that cannot be genetically modified in any way; thus, the need to choose organic is the best way to be sure that foods that have been genetically engineered stay out of a person’s diet.
Genetically modified, also known as (GM), has a lot of controversial issues that surround the benefits and disadvantages. In concerning agricultural sustainability, the GMOs tend to have numerous potential merits that have the impact of increasing productivity. In America, many farmers have changed from organic to GM food (Reganold, John, and Jonathan, 2016). The accessibility and affordability of the GM seeds have made it easier for American large and small scale farmers to grow crops. The benefit of GM cultivation is that it aims in the reduction of usage of pesticides that is harmful to the environment. That GMOs pose hazardous impacts on human health. The chemical toxicity is a worrying factor in which had increased the risk of allergies.
Additionally, genetic contamination is one of the issues in which GMOs are associated with matters of interbreeding. The broad introduction of GMOs in agriculture and interbreeding has changed the element of compatibility types. GMOs lead to the high competition that happens in natural species. The fast-growing of GMOs is a factor as it has the purpose of enabling a vast competitive advantage over other native organisms. The GM portrays a form of invasiveness that spreads into new habitats. It would cause adverse damage to the ecological and economic aspects. The GMO tend to have ecosystem impacts in which it affects biodiversity and nature around ( Barrell ).
According to Drugova, Tatiana, and Kynda (2019 ) contend that that is having the knowledge of organic foods benefits usually impacts the demands aspect of non-organic foods or GM products in the market. A healthy lifestyle is promoted by eating natural foods as it does not have a chemical effect on the biological functions of the body. More nutrients-organic foods have more nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and micronutrients. They are more nutritious than commercially grown products since the soil is managed and nourished with sustainable practices by responsible standards. It is imperative to state that chemicals-consuming organically grown foods are suitable for humans as it the best way of avoiding chemical poisons which happens a lot. In the presence of commercially grown food, there are harmful ingredients that affect individuals without individual knowing about it. It is essential to choose healthier organic food. Some researchers believe that eating GMO foods can contribute to the development of cancer. They argue that because mutations in DNA cause the disease, it is dangerous to introduce new genes into the body. The American Cancer Society (ACS) has said that there is no evidence for this. However, there is a lot of GM food intake in which, due to low follow-up, cannot trace the unauthorized supply to the society and environment. There are many concepts in which prove there are many benefits of genetic engineering, which mainly involves Farmers providing more nutritious food. The American people have to change their diet and eat just the right products form the markets. Today, there is a lot of better food yield and taste of GM food, which is tastier.Disease- and drought-resistant plants come from DNA that is present in specific habitats. It this important to note that GM has led to many issues as an increased supply of food with reduced cost and longer shelf life. The animals can grow much faster in creating ecosystem competition.
GMOs’ health concerns which include various allergic reactions that proved the harmful impact of GM foods. In comparison to organic foods, which promotes a healthier lifestyle and no diseases advocates for the FDA to protect consumers of GM foods (Meghani, 2017). With the laxity laws and the limited restriction in food and feed chain of unauthorized GMOs to the market has impacted the vast of amount of unapproved and untested GMOs to the American public. According to scientific researches, they showed that GMOs tends to cause allergic reactions mainly since it contained specific genes from an allergen (a type of food that brings up the allergic reaction). In retrospect, the World Health Organization (WHO) does not encourage gene editing and any form of genetic engineers through the use of DNA from allergens. The WHO avers that there should be evidence that unless they can prove that a specific gene is not the source of the problem ( Jasanoff, Sheila, and Benjamin, 2018).
In the past decades, there has been an increase in allergic reactions as the GM food effects are widely available in the market.Cancer is another impact on which GM food has on human beings. The reason why organic foods are better and safe is that it has nutrients and chemical benefits in fighting off diseases in which GM food intake. It is a fact that the consumption of GMO foods has the potential impacts that lead to cancer development in the body. Nevertheless, antibacterial resistance is another aspect in which GM foods affect the immunity of the body (Dizon et al., 2016). The issue that GM is tied to genetic modification, that helps in crop product it, which can boost a crop’s resistance firm any types of diseases. The use of excessive herbicides is a problem in organic food cultivation that will, in virtue, be digested by consumers. People would have lesser immunity to fight infections and disease which make people sick.
According to Berning contend that consumer perception is significant concerning GMOs. It is proper to evaluate the necessary tools to analyze the GMO to understand the bioengineered ingredients that make up the genetic makeup. The American public must know what they are eating regardless of the advertisement for GM foods and their safety. The organic foods have simple natural ingredients whereby it helps in body replenishing and rebuilds. People must evaluate and detection of components of GMOs, which makes people feel sick—the negative impact of consumerism on GM foods. Organic foods have been instrumental and a competitor of GMOs. Organics produce highly encouraged in that it contains fewer pesticides. Farmers are able to spend less on purchasing. Fertilizers used are usually natural manure that is free and reliable for American farmers. Organic food is confirmed as fresh as it has no preservatives. Environmental promotion because of organic farming makes the soil healthier and increase biodiversity.
Preservation of the ecosystem-organic farming supports eco-sustainability in that soil health gets preserved. Through the system of crop rotation, it ensures that the farmland gets more healthy and less toxic. The reason is that it has chemical abstinence, which helps in the preservation of the ecosystem. Organic farming is better than GM cropping as it preserves the agricultural diversity- organic farming methods, for instance. This crop rotation is known as an effective technique in organic agriculture. It has the benefit of reducing the need for pesticides that farmers should adopt. Agriculturists have a mandate to improve soil fertility by adopting organic farming methods.
Organic cropping tends to reduce pollution and also ensure that optimal protection of the soil is enhanced. It is important to note that water- organic standards do not support the usage of toxic chemicals in farming; thus, it needs adequate management of healthy soil as well as biodiversity (Tsvetkov et al.,2018). The purpose of supporting farming directly-buying methods and also the consumption of organic foods is constructive and saves a lot of money. It is a form of investment in which ensures cost-effectiveness in consumption in the future. GMO foods are much expensive at the marketplace or grocery stores compared to organic products; hence buying directly from farmers reduces cost and promotes financial stability. The need to support healthier farm lifestyle among American farmers is wanting, therefore, and it is imperative to strive for the healthier community- growing food organically which have no biological or physical harm the immediate neighborhood or society which show that organic foods are good for the environment.
Conclusively, organic food has note nutrient values compared to GMOs. There is a need for a recommendation that people should confirm in high water intakes and organic foods. Unauthorized GM foods should not be trusted or supplied to the American population. It is vital to compare that organic foods are healthier and safer since it is all-natural. GMO tend to benefit agricultural productivity and sustainability but affect human health at a large
