Global Information Technology
As brought up by Prashant Palvia of the University of Memphis, Global Information Technology comes with a lot in it. Pertinence should be brought to global IT in an attempt to resolve what practitioners of a community need. This is a critique of Prashant’s Journal of Global Information Technology Research: Past, Present, and Future.
According to the journal, the definition of global IT has been exhibited majorly from a broad perspective because of the technological advancements all over the world. However, the growth has led to misinterpretation of two terms, Information Technology, which is much broader to Information Systems. Again, not all research qualifies to be global IT, but there should be some similarities amidst all kinds of cultures to improve everyone’s comprehension of the international environment.
The Condition of Global Information Technology till today
Compared to the MIS basic conceptual structure, global IT frameworks have not widely received acceptance. They need to be thorough yet with a minimal number of assumptions and have to go through a validation process (V. C. staff). This is, however, to be brought up and will significantly encourage more exploration and study in global IT.
Global Information Technology Practitioner’s Opinion
According to the journal, there is an excellent need for relevance contribution to global IT, and the practitioners’ needs in a community need to be addressed all from the irrelevant research brought in by MIS researchers (A. U. staff). The practitioner groups should be the key areas in which global IT should focus, and their research should dwell on real problems in real companies due to the rapid growth of information technology.
Existing Developments
The journal concludes by mentioning the Global IT Centre located in the University of Memphis that promotes various global IT aspects with many experts in this field for assistance (MacKechnie). The center hopes to be a primary source of global IT, provide information and resources, and conduct timely research in global announcement hence support the needs of a business community
Conclusively, this journal based its focus on Global Information Technology and brought to notice all that revolves around IT from when it all started. The study gave a clear definition of what IT is and what it is not and went further, giving IT the condition to date. I recognize that there is a need to bring relevance to global IT research and address the needs of the practitioner community, for it is in this way that problems facing IT will be solved. The journal’s diversity and a clear description of IT do not restrict the generalizability of the findings; thus, it can be put into use in future research on global It.
