Learning styles
In the film, goodwill hunting, learning styles has been portrayed when Will’s genius compels him to achieve high goals. Will and his friend went to a tavern full of university students, and Will lectures them, telling them that they are paying vast sums of money that could otherwise be used to access public libraries. He further demonstrates that many students will not have any of their original thoughts of their own in the next fifty years while he will be liberated to think for himself. This film makes a person think about the learning styles one receives in college. This usually creates a difference between people who use their method of learning for their growth and happiness while others use it for status. The film also depicts that learning does not only take place in classes but also at home and experiences of life. The film tries to demonstrate people will learn best through what they see, and people teach other people lessons that are not taught in schools and higher institutions of learning.
Gifted/talented students
Will is a genius in mathematics that opts to ignore his gift but instead chooses to work as a concierge at MIT. He is an underachiever with exceptional abilities, but instead, he decides to hide them. He fears that when he follows the path to a shining mathematician, he will lose his friends who are living low lifestyles around sports, beer and average neighbourhoods. His friend, who is not that gifted wants to see him happy and use his gifts to propel him to greatness. The movie tries to illustrate how different characters have different talents and gifts. A role in the film named Sean is hired to assist Will, and intern Sean was also helping himself heal his wounds when his wife died. This illustrates that Sean is using his gift to help Will be a better person and in return, he helps himself; thus, both of them get to benefit from each other’s contributions. In the film, gifted students who are stricken of poverty are usually disregarded and seen as they do not fit the category of a gifted student. Thus they get to experience varying degrees of underachievement.
Scaffolding
Scaffolding is seen in the movie as Will requires a tutor. Professor Lambeau had early attempted push Will into doing things that he did not like which eventually led the professor doing it in the wrong way, thus falling out with Will. However, Maguire challenged Will, and this prompted him to think what he had learned, enabling him to be encouraged and pursue what he wanted. The film shows a depiction of psychoanalysis process that contains inappropriate and disreputable behaviors exhibited by the counselor. Will does not go well with his interests in reading and intelligence. Reading usually gives him capability and a way to isolate himself, and he uses jobs which are scholarly to calm down. Will possesses some strength in intelligence as he can solve complex mathematics and chooses Chuckie as his best friend. The therapist and the Lambeau were roommates in college, and they found themselves with self-doubt. This powerful pull and push creates connectivity of support and caring for each other.
