The world’s economy has been relying on oil as a significant influencer of all activities, enhancing the running of various sectors. Oil is a vital product that has been in use for more than a century and especially in the logistics industry which helps in the movement of goods and services that form the primary foundation of the economy (Dominković et al. 2018, p. 1823-1838). Over the last few decades, the extraction of oil has been declining, which may be a significant blow to the economy. The logistics may be the worst hit, and this calls for a need to review the best alternative in a bid to ensure that goods and services can be moved from one place to the other (Piecyk et al. 2015). Thus, the field of logistics can be reinvented without oil by investing in other sources of energy.
One of the best alternatives which may replace oil is solar energy which has the capability of supporting a more extensive range of factors. In the 21st century, companies such as Tesla Inc. are investing the manufactures of electric cars (Musonera & Cagle, 2019). Manufactures in the industry may decide to install solar roofing on vehicles to ensure that they convert solar energy directly into electric energy which will be essential in transmission. Further, solar energy may be complemented with wind and hydro-electric power (HEP) as well as geothermal energy which is commonly referred to as green energy (Piecyk et al. 2015). Green energy will be crucial in powering warehouses and heavy machines in industry which are crucial in supporting the field of logistics.
Green energy such as solar, wind, and HEP are all renewable sources of energy which means that they cannot be depleted, unlike oil. The availability of green energy will be crucial in reducing the cost of operations, especially in the field of logistics (Dominković et al. 2018, p. 1823-1838). Relies on green energy will increase to electric trains, cars, ships, planes, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cable transport. Thus, green energy is the best alternative that will replace oil in the running and operations of the field of logistics
