Hashtags
- #AwakeTheFilm
This hashtag originated following the release of the Awake: A Dream from Standing Rockwhich was produced by Bullfrog Films in 2017. The origination of this hashtag came from a film made focusing on the demonstrations that were taking place in North Dakota. The hashtag was widely used on Facebook and Twitter platforms to highlight the challenges that the native tribes of North Dakota were going through. The use of the hashtag was used many times between 2017 and 2019. The campaign proposed that the construction of the oil pipeline would be an environmental catastrophe(Fox and Cadotte). #AwakeTheFilmhashtag was based on facts that had happened before and policies designed to harm the environment. The credibility of the hashtag got confirmed through the actions that the government was taking against the protesters and also the videos that were acquired and posted online from the demonstrations. The impact of the hashtag was significant because it led to many people across the world to join in the push for the American government to stop the construction of the oil pipeline. Many people also came to join the demonstrations in North Dakota.
- #Brexit
#Brexit is one of the most popular hashtags in the United Kingdom. It ran from 2019 to 2020 based on the United Kingdom wanting to leave the European Union. The beginning of #Brexit was in June 2016 after a referendum got conducted to allow the United Kingdom to exit the European Union. This hashtag campaign focused on sensitizing the population of the United Kingdom on the government choosing to exit from the European economic zone block. The #Brexit hashtag sought to show the value that the union and the policies were denying the people that the union had, which were seen not to be in the best interest on the United Kingdom(Brexit: All you need to know about the UK leaving the EU). The proposition for the move was that the United Kingdom is ready to carry out its economic policies and planning by itself. The credibility of the hashtag move was based on the past activities of the United Kingdom since joining the European Union. The hashtag became a
because there was backing from the majority of the population, and in January 2020 the United Kingdom exited from the European Union.
