Health is a primary component of any stage of human life, and everyone strives and hopes for wellbeing in terms of health. Health promotion is a broad concept of health systems that allows people to be liberated about their health concerns. According to WHO, health promotion is clearly defined as a systematic process that enables people to have direct control over their health and its determinants, hence improving their health status generally. Conversely, health promotion principles are just the defined strategies that aid in achieving health promotion goals and objectives. The WHO has endorsed the three pillars of health promotion that is healthy cities, health literacy and good governance. However, there has been a debated question of turning health promotion principles into practice to achieve practical health promotion success. The principle of health promotion covers up the spheres of ecological niche touching on healthy people, a healthy environment, and a healthy community. The paper seeks to address the principle of health promotion practical application in the three confines of healthy people, a healthy environment and a healthy community. Generally, individuals should be empowered to take control of their own health and wellbeing. The empowerment systems entail providing a substantive means to group or individuals that would enable them to make a decision and have control over their health. The policymakers of the health promotion strategies should empower the community and people through knowledge and skill acquisition. The acquired skills and knowledge are primary in enabling people to have control and make a decision about their health and wellbeing. In this, there are skills that are very necessary for personal empowerment in terms of health and wellbeing. The health information can be communicated through acquired skills to an individual or a group of people. For instance, they are allowing community or individuals to participate in a community health training program. Currently, in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, the community can be involved in learning the skills on how to maintain personal and environmental hygiene through practices like hand washing. Subsequently, impart such skills like the handwashing enables people to be aware of what is required of them to control the spread of the disease.
Conversely, communication of key health messages and involving the community impact the knowledge on the people involved. For instance, informing the people about maintaining a clean environment and its health benefits will enable them to be aware and make a good decision. The community can be informed about the importance of good nutrition in the effect of promoting healthy living. Nevertheless, well-informed individuals will make assertive decisions that will promote their health and wellbeing. However, in line with the three pillars, the skills and knowledge-based approach are primary. The good governance will create and enable the free flow of the information among the community. Health literacy is the fixed of the skills that the community will acquire. And, a healthy environment will translate to actions and initiative of the people after getting the knowledge and the skills.
