Healthcare Policy in Texas
Healthcare policy in Texas is responsible for the implementation and creation of rules, regulations, and laws for the management of the healthcare systems in the Texas state.it is made up of two agencies one is Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and Texas health and human services commission (HHSC) (Revere et al., 2020). The DSHS’s primary mission is to continuously improve Texas’s well-being, safety, and health to children, people with special needs, and women. This is achieved by good stewardship of the available public resources and focusing on health functions. DSHS also serves as the public health and population for Texas by providing death and birth records, health data, regulating and licensing facilities, leading public health response in disease, disaster outbreaks, and threats. This paper aims to discuss health issues under the Texas Department of state health services and Texas health and human service commission.
Some of the significant issues that have been forefront for the agencies are the Women’s Health Programs policy procedure manual. The program is only eligible for women of the age between 18 to 44, must be Texas resident, and US resident and does not have health insurance (Texas Health and Human Services, 2020). Family Planning Policies (FPP), which is eligible for people below 64 years, must be living under 250% federal poverty level, determining FPP eligibility household, income, and income deductions are the definitions used. Administrative Policies this policy ensures that timely services are provided to the clients without any discrimination. Contractors should ensure that minors age 17 and below are attended urgently.HHSC contractors must comply with the laws of reporting any suspect of neglect and abuse of people with disabled adults and children. Breast and Cervical Cancer Services (BCCS). Texas also has the highest maternal mortality rate that has been developed in the world. In conclusion, some of Texas’s major issues are Family planning, breast, and cervical cancer services, women, children, and people with disabilities healthcare. The policies created guides contractors to ensure quality services are delivered in the healthcare departments.
