Heart failure
Heart failure is a cardiac condition in which the heart cannot pump enough oxygen and blood to the muscles and body organs. The disease develops in an individual over time when exposed to the risk factors such as race and ethnicity, gender, family history, and age(Francis & Tang,2019).
Health prevention and promotion activities aim to promote health and prevent disease development. Various steps are necessary for the prevention of heart failure and health promotion. The first step is eating a healthy diet, which helps protect the heart, improve blood pressure, and cholesterol (Francis & Tang,2019). Individuals are advised to consume whole grains, fish and lean meat, fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, fat-free dairy, and healthy fats. Therefore, smoking, drinking too much alcohol, and using illegal drugs is discouraged from heart damage.
Secondly, individuals are advised to maintain their weight. Being overweight contributes to heart failure and disease, increasing the chances of developing heart failure, including high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes (Francis & Tang,2019). Also, regular exercise can help individuals prevent heart failure. Running and other physical exercises enable an individual to lose excess fats and weight hence improving their health. Besides, physical activity also contributes to stress management reducing the risks of heart disease.
Health promotion activities include regular screening and health education on prevention measures. Individuals at risk can be screened for high blood pressure and diabetes type 2, which results in heart failure for most patients. These practices can inform an individual whether they need to take early action. Equally, health education on the risk factors of heart failure and ways to prevent it, such as physical exercise, stress management, early screenings, and proper diet will ensure disease prevention and health promotion.
