Paragraph One

In medieval Europe, silk became one of the most valuable commercial products to be traded and was coveted by the Westerners more than jewels and spices. During this period, women invested in the business, for instance, Empress Irene. She is acknowledged for her role in expanding and promoting the silk industry. Medieval Europe represented a time when the strength of a trader as a woman hugely depended on her associations. On this note, Empress Irene aligned herself with the Roman emperor Charlemagne following the death of her husband. After gaining enough experience, she saw enormous economic value in the Byzantine silk production and decided to invest in the business. There were numerous women interested in the business and Empress Irene set up her business in Byzantium. Sample bias is used in this context since women were not treated the same in other trading towns as opposed to Byzantium. In Byzantium, women were treated with the respect due to Empress Irene. All in all, silk trading led to women being acknowledged as business people and leaders as well.

Paragraph 2

Charlemagne is one of the most renowned emperors of Europe due to his efforts in uniting cities across the region. To acknowledge his efforts, there is a prize awarded to each individual across Europe who contributes towards European unity for instance Winston Churchill known as the Charlemagne Prize. More importantly, the rule of Charlemagne influenced Christianity as he helped build more churches in the region. As such, there was the conversion of numerous Christians from northern Italy, Spain and France. On this note, Charlemagne’s leadership improved Europe socially, politically and economically. Personal bias is present in this context Charlemagne ruled Europe based on his experiences, values, education, and beliefs. Through such, Europe achieved success economically, politically, socially and religiously as well.

Paragraph Three

The country of Byzantine achieved success politically, economically, and socially through the rule of Emperor Justinian and his empress. The two leaders were born from humble beginnings but their rule from 527 to 548 marked one of the most successful rules in Byzantine history. Reasons why they were successful as leaders were their intelligence and political astuteness in their promotion of religious and social policies. Moreover, the empress helped fight for the rights of women and this led to their participation in business. Before that, women were only viewed as housewives and the stellar governance qualities of the empress led to the slow recognition and admission of women in leadership positions. The empress not only paved the way for women in leadership but also in acting, dancing and comedy. Gradually, women could now have careers and this led to their empowerment. Cultural and personal biases are present in this context. Empress of Byzantine implemented policies that changed the cultural view of women. The success achieved was due to her personal view that women needed to be empowered.

Paragraph Four

The incorporation of technology in archaeology has led to modern discoveries. In this case, Maya ancient city ruins were discovered through the use of LiDAR technology that digitally removes forest canopies to identify any city debris. This was considered a breakthrough in Maya archaeology as more than 60,000 houses; elevated highways were discovered deep in the jungles of northern Guatemala. More importantly, the archaeologists acknowledge the importance of LiDAR technology in such projects. The lead researchers highlight that they could not have covered such a large area (more than 800 square miles) without the incorporation of technology. Sample bias is present in this context since a certain area was segregated in the Guatemalan Jungle for analysis. Additionally, specific technology was used to analyze the samples collected. All in all, the success achieved in the project embodied the significance of technology in archaeological findings
