Homeland Security deals with terrorism issues
Homeland security is a defense department that ensures security within the United States and its borders, where it hinders and responds to issues such as terrorism. However, homeland security is the threat of homegrown jihadists such as the United States Army Major Nidal Hasan. Nidal Hasan was responsible for the 2009 shooting attack at Ft. Hood (Quivooij, 2016). The jihadist movement involves the Islamist movement that deals with military issues and causes a threat to people. Even though Homeland Security deals with terrorism issues, Nidal Hasan, a commissioned officer, killed his fellow service members and was noted as a terrorist since the incident attack.
Radicalization entails the aspect of causing an individual to adapt to radical positions on political or social issues that reject to the expressions of the nation. Radicalization is a rising threat to the Homeland Security of the United States. A United States citizen becomes radicalized when they engage in terrorism issues. Several domestic terror attacks have being noted in the U.S, such as the Boston Marathon bombing, 2013 and Orlando night club shooting, 2017. An example of a U.S citizen becoming radicalized is Sami Osmakac. Sami Osmakac, an Albanian American, was responsible for planting improvised explosive devices within Tampa, Florida (Hung et al. 2019). However, Osmakac was born in Yugoslavia, United States, and in December 2010, he got a commitment to Islamist extremism. Likewise, he worked within an undercover FBI agent that helped him to acquire weapons for the attack in Florida. He was convicted by a jury on June 10, 2014, due to his terrorist attacks in Florida. The conviction was due to the use of weapons of mass destruction against the U.S property.
Markedly, this threat to Homeland Security can be mitigated through the enhancement of the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) abilities and reduction of the dangerous attack threat against essential infrastructure, federal, state, local, and territorial entities.
