How Behavior is Shaped by the Environment
An Example of How Behavior is Shaped by the Environment and the Discussion of Different Examples and the Question Which Environmental Forces May Lead to Crime.
Based on the relevance of the environment affecting individuals’ behaviors, the main issue to consider is the different experiences that one faces in specific domains. Mostly when growing, the connectome, which is where nature meets nurture, might change according to the environment one is in. Environment affects the way one acts, how people talk, the values that are acceptable to them, and everything. For example, if a child grows up in an environment where the father is rigorous, and keeps punishing the child, the baby may turn to be so obedient and filled with fear, or the child may also ‘harden’ to the extent of becoming a real crook. Another example is where a family in an urban region would have their children indulge themselves in crime due to the environment’s influence. When living or growing up in middle class or low-income class regions, teens find themselves turn into crime.
“Testosterone and Crime” Video Summary: Assumption that there is a Relationship between Testosterone and Crime and that Young Males Have High Amounts of Testosterone. Should they be monitored closely? What may be the positive and negative consequences of closer monitoring?
Based on Steve Jones’ analysis of how the genes affect a person’s behavior, testosterone, which is found in the human body and made by genes, is responsible for the violent actions in a male. The environment also significantly affects a person’s behavior but can be changed in the situation where the person may stay away from the areas that suppress them to specific actions that include violence and crimes, but the genes can never be changed. The rate at which the young males have testosterone higher than older people affects society in various ways as the side effects affect the way young people should be approached concerning the issues. Addressing the violent people is not simple, and also changing them is somewhat impossible since the genes cannot be changed.
Nurture is More Responsible for Criminal Behavior than Nature.
Based on a person’s behavior, nurture and nature are both responsible for how the person carries themselves and mostly in the violence point of view. However, the nurture matters more than character when focusing intensely on young people, mainly from their tender age. For instance, the parents and family members matter most to a child’s life and have the most influence on them. The children grow up in the character that the environment they were brought up at looked like or felt. The teenager’s personality is shaped by the lifestyle opportunities that they have and also their friendship groups. The crucial situations they face in life are also vital in affecting how they grow up or their characters. For example, the experience of losing apparent may be very touching and also affect the behavior of the deceased child. However, nature and nurture interact, but the nurture affects nature more than the way nature affects the nurture in a person.
The Concept of Collective Efficacy and How it Relates to Social Disorganization and Crime. The Reasons why Some Neighborhoods Remain Stable While Others Cannot.
In terms of criminology, the term collective efficacy involves the ability of members of the community to monitor the behavior of individuals or even groups. The society is subjected to giving excellent and favorable conditions that create a safe and orderly environment. The neighbors of the Greater Chatham were the African American middle and upper-class population. The Greater Chatham consisted of home to multi-generational families attracting new residents due to the availability of safe streets, a close-knit community, and available jobs from the various successful businesses that arose due to middle-skill employment and professional careers. The residents of Greater Chatham are comparatively well employed and highly skilled. Also, its commercial centers are thriving. Still, many amenities, good infrastructure, and the historical sense of the right public area and all the mentioned qualities keep it on top of other residential areas. However, the significance of Greater Chatham is dropping gradually due to the mix of powers working at the local and macro levels. Besides, from the struggling US economy’s influence, the middle class has shrunk as the labor market restructure place. Some newer residents having lower income than the longer-term residents face inadequate social support in such areas and cannot reside in these areas.
