How to Clean a Glass Top Stove and Keep it Looking New All the Time

Glass top stoves are seamless with a sleek style that no other appliances can beat. But when it comes to cleaning, you must be careful so as not to scratch the surface while at the same time keep them free of grease, film, or food spills and burned-on deposit. Be sure to wipe the stove after every use with a little vinegar and water.

Simple Steps to Follow While Using natural Remedies

Step 1:

Vinegar is an excellent cleaning solution that is natural and which acts as a degreaser and so saves you time and money. When the surface cools, spray the glass stove surface with white vinegar using a spray bottle and then wipe it with a damp cloth to get rid of any debris.

Step 2

Sprinkle the entire surface with baking to break down debris and grease without scratching the surface. Baking soda is mild and you can scrub it on the glass top.

Step 3

Soak a large towel in hot water, drape it over the whole top surface and leave it for about fifteen minutes. Doing this allows the baking soda and warm water to loosen the stuck-on crud. After fifteen minutes are over, remove the towel and scrub any spots with a non-abrasive pad then wipe clean.

Step 4

Wipe down the stovetop again with a vinegar-soaked sponge or microfiber cloth, then buff with a dry cloth. Your stove will get a streak-free shine.

How to Clean a Burnt Glass Stove Top

You may realize that even after using the above method, your stovetop remains burnt and does not give you the sparkling look that you wanted. You can follow the following steps to give your stove a brand new look;

  1. Spray some dawn dishwashing detergent on the surface of your stove. This soap is excellent in removing oil completely from the glass top.
  2. Sprinkle some baking soda on top of the detergent
  • Add a little hydrogen peroxide, about one or two tablespoons.
  1. Using a dish scrubber, rub the surface of the stove
  2. Allow the solution to sit for a minimum of three minutes and then wipe clean with a dry dishcloth or a sponge

How to Prevent Damaging Your Glass Top Stove

You want your glass top0- stove to remain as new even after several months or years of using it. You will, therefore, have to avoid making the following mistakes which may seem normal to most of us;

Using Scrubby Sponges

A sponge has a soft side and a scrubby one. While it is okay to use the soft side to wipe your glass cooktop, avoid the temptation of flipping it over to use the scrubby side. This side of the sponge is too abrasive and can scratch the glass surface and damage your stovetop.

Cleaning When Hot

Cleaning the surface of your stove while it is still hot can damage it as the cleansers may quickly burn and spoil the finish of the glass and leave boils or pits. Waiting until the stove is completely cool before cleaning will ensure the safety of your appliance.

Using Steel Wool

While using the abrasive side of a sponge can scratch the surface a little, steel wool will leave deep pits. The crevasses will cause food to stick and leave permanent features on the stovetop.

You can use a razor blade in place of steel wool to remove any tough grime that has dried on the surface. Hold the razor at an angle of 45-degrees then skim off the grossness from the glass top.

Using a Glass Cleaner

While it may appear logical to clean your glass top stove using glass cleaners like Windex, this will damage your appliance and it is thus not a viable idea. The cleaner has ammonia in it which is too strong for your stovetop. Make sure to avoid this cleaning agent and instead use white vinegar which is a bit mild and will not damage the glass surface.

How to Remove Scratches from the Glass Top

Sometimes it is inevitable to scratch the glass surface while cleaning but this does not mean that you should leave them permanently in place. You can remove the scratches using baking soda or MAAS metal polish crème

  1. Using Baking Soda

This method requires you to have water, soft clothes, and baking soda. You will then have to follow the following steps;

  1. Add baking soda to the water in a container and make a loose paste that is wet. Avoid using a dry paste as this may damage the cooktop. Ensure that it has a consistency liked that of pudding.

  1. Apply the paste on the cool glass stop while at the same time rubbing gently

  • Wipe the top clean using a soft, dry cloth

  1. Buff it dries using a second clean cloth

  1. Using Metal Polish Crème ( MAAS)

Unless the scratches are deep which means little or nothing can be done to remove them, you can buff out the ones on the surface with a metal polish. Whether the method will succeed or not depends on the type as well as the colour of your stove. You will need the following substances to use this method; cotton balls or soft cloths, MAAS metal polish crème (available online), scrubbing pad, and water.

Steps to Follow;

You can obtain the metal polishing crème from various stores that stock metal polishes or cleaners or you can buy online.

  1. Test the polish on a small area that is not too visible
  2. If there is no damage on the surface tested, apply a little amount of the polish on a soft cloth or cotton ball
  • Rub the polish over the surface following small, circular patterns
  1. Wipe with a clean damp cloth that is soaked in water. Ensure to wring excess water from the cloth before wiping
  2. Repeat the procedure for better results
  3. If the scratch does not disappear completely, apply a little amount of the polish on scrubbing pad and rub gently over the surface
  • Avoid too much scrubbing as this may cause the surface to become dull or even damage some parts. If the scratch does not disappear, it may mean that it was too deep or the material making the top is not compatible with the solution.
