How to Make Stress Your Friend by Kelly McGonigal
Stress has been seen as an enemy for a long time. Stress has caused the deaths of many Americans, according to a study done. The speaker is right that what we think about stress makes people easier to die. The new view by Kelly My Gonigal is controversial, but I still find it to be significant and valid. I support her view. When we believe that stress is harmful to us, this makes our bodies not to be able to handle the pressure.
Stress can kill us very fast if we believe that stress is harmful to us. A study was conducted by some researchers that established that a positive view on stress could change the body’s response to stress. Many people who had a positive attitude towards stress were not exposed to cardiovascular heart diseases, and we’re able to live for long as compared to those who had a negative attitude. “One thing we know for certain is that chasing meaning is better for your health than trying to avoid discomfort. And so I would say that’s the best way to make decisions, It is to go after what it is that creates meaning in your life and then trust yourself to handle the stress that follows.”
When you choose to view your stress response as helpful, you create the biology of courage. And when you choose to connect with others under stress, you can create resilience. When we are able to stand up to the challenges, we face our bodies respond better making us able to live with stress and utilize it well to our advantage. I support the new approach that the speaker introduced as it changes the approach towards handling stress completely. Stress doesn’t always have to be an enemy as when we have a bad attitude towards it makes us deaths prey.
