HR Professional Ethics
- Part A: Read the SHRM Code of Ethics. Review the guidelines under the category of Professional Development. Propose and discuss a learning opportunity that you will pursue to achieve one or more goals related to these guidelines.
I want to achieve some learning opportunities, such as skill development and a commitment to continuous learning. I would also contribute to professional evolution, the knowledge body, and teaching (SHRM, 2014). Working in HR and other general business, one can learn, increase, and develop their particular professional skills. Life id a continuous form of a learning process, besides going through school, I want to acquire more skills in once I take on s HR career. I want to learn teaching skills to pass on knowledge to others to improve their skills so that together we help the company grow and achieve its goals.
- Part B: Discuss three examples of ethical challenges that HR professionals may encounter as they apply to modern organizations. Discuss how you would address each situation (not necessarily the solution but also how you would approach the problem). Use the resources provided to support your ideas.
The first ethical challenge that HR encounter is discrimination and harassment. Individuals can be harassed and discriminated in a work setting based on gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, appearance, and more (Scott, n.d). I would adopt the best approach in addressing the problem and constantly remind everyone that discrimination and harassment go against what I, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Civil Rights Act stand for. I would also ensure everyone undergoes the necessary awareness and training programs but report and punish disciplinary cases among workers.
The second challenge is diversity. I believe no one should be treated differently, and everyone should embrace diversity. I would address this problem by reminding works the HR department is for variety and that having people from a different background would bring about more creativity in the workplace. I would ensure that guidelines are well written in employees’ handbook and that every worker should own one to serve as a reminder of principle work ethics (Ingram, 2018).
The third challenge is safety. The HR department is responsible for protecting and identifying danger among employees in a company. I want my employee to feel safe working. I would create a working environment that ensures employees’ safety and form and emergency control leaders to guide workers through safety precautionary measures. Also, I would ensure that everyone enrolls in a safety course. (Scott, n.d)
Question 2: Emerging HR Trends
- Discuss three current or future trends impacting the HR profession. What opportunities and challenges might these trends present for HR and the organization? As a human resource professional, what new skills and/or competencies would you need to further develop to adapt to these trends and to continue to be successful in your role? Use the resources provided to support your ideas.
The first trend in HR is the Worker classification and compensation; one can look for job description and salary online using Google. HR should take advantage of learning, enhancing their skills in evolving technology.
The second trend is improving workers’ inclusion and fighting harassment. Key competencies required for HRs is the proper understanding of core professional ethics.
The third trend is focusing on or emphasizing employee experience as well as branding.
