HSA Career Outlook
I possess the following qualities that would qualify me to pursue a career in Healthcare.
Communication Skills
Effective communication is the core of every workplace. It is even more important in Healthcare. I can speak with patients and their family members in addition to the routine communication with coworkers. I can effectively communicate the needs and specifics of treatment to coworkers. I can also practice empathy as it is part of communication in Healthcare.
Passion and Technical Knowledge
Even though Healthcare is a very tough professional field, I am passionate about it. I can manage the many traumatic situations that may occur. I hardly lose my emotional cool.
Flexibility in my Approach
In the Healthcare field, many unexpected situations occur. I understand that being a professional in Healthcare is not a typical 8 to 4 job where every day is like the other. I am flexible in a way that I can handle different clients with different personalities.
Attention to Detail
In Healthcare, dexterity is key. Detail orientation and precision are assets. Assessment, prescription, diagnosis, administration of medicine, and all medical procedures need attention to detail. I can address each error accordingly, even the smallest ones as they can cost heavily.
Honesty and Integrity
Healthcare is a profession in which human lives are involved. I have the qualities of transparency, honesty and integrity, which qualify me to pursue a career in this field.
The above qualities match with the characteristics of both Social Worker and Medical Social Worker healthcare professions. The qualities are applicable in both fields. Overall, these qualities are universal in any healthcare profession. There are an important social worker and medical social worker characteristics that any person interested in the professions should have (Browne, 2019). These characteristics are linked to the above qualities. They include patience, empathy, perceptiveness, dependability, and the ability to set boundaries. Social workers are professionals who aim at enhancing the overall well-being and help meet the basic and complex needs of people and communities. These needs include health. They particularly focus on the vulnerable, oppressed, and the poor in the community. Medical social workers work in hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, community health agencies, and long-term care facilities (Browne, 2019). They work with families and patients in need of medical and psychological help.
For both Social Worker and Medical Social Worker professions, the workers have to meet education requirements that will qualify them to apply for licenses in social work jobs. A social worker or medical social worker should earn a bachelor’s degree. This is the minimum education requirement in these professions. During this degree, prospective professionals must take courses in case management, social services, and social work practice (Browne, 2019). While students do not necessarily have to major in social work to secure opportunities in the profession, internships, volunteer opportunities, as well as courses, help prepare future social workers and medical social workers. Professional in both fields should also earn a Master of Social Work to qualify them to get a professional certification.
Social Work and Medical Social Work professions offer strong potential for job and salary growth. In the United States, social workers earn an annual salary of more than $50000 (Tadic et al. 2020). Social workers and medical social workers enjoy the benefit of strong job demand, with faster growth in the field with at least 1000 jobs created every year (Tadic et al. 2020). Salaries for social work and social work professionals vary depending on the education and experience of an individual. Workplace and location are also factors to consider when determining salaries. Medical social workers earn an annual salary of about $57000 (Tadic et al. 2020). Social workers and medical social workers can increase their salary range by earning an advanced degree, adding professional certificates to show expertise in their respective fields, or pursuing a specialty based on demand.
Social workers and medical social workers can be employed in a wide range of facilities. This is because nearly all medical professions require the contribution of social workers. Social workers and medical social workers can be hired interchangeably. This means that a facility may not discriminate whether to hire a social worker or a medical social worker because they have the ability to take the same roles. They work in a variety of settings which include schools, mental health clinics, hospitals, human service agencies, community practices, and development corporations (Tadic et al. 2020). Social workers and medical social workers generally work full-time. They may also have to work during holidays, weekends, and evenings.
In Miami, the job outlook for the professions of social work and medical social work is projected to grow by 11 per cent in the next ten years. This is much faster than the average for all other professions. These professions are projected to create about 81000 new jobs between 2020 and 2030 (Tadic et al. 2020). The growth in employment will be driven by the increasing daily demand for social services and Healthcare but may vary by specialization.
