I am not your Negro
A contemporary negro is an empowered man and woman, and empowerment is a definite thing. In the past, when the revolutionary of African America was beginning, only a few negros had illumination of the oppression that was taking place and the courage to bring anarchy to the system. However, presently, a majority of African Americans are empowered, they have influential positions in America, and some of them are the most influential people in the world, such as Barrack Obama and the Carter family (Jay-Z and Beyoncé). Also, African Americans have the majority of the Whites supporting their cause of fighting against anti-Black racial discrimination.
During the period of James Baldwin, I probably would not have participated in the riots and revolutions if I was White. Because all whites had the notion that the nigger did not belong. However, if I were a nigger, then I would have participated in the revolutions to bring justice to my people and declare my humanity.
Yes, I think the breaking of the unjust laws was and facing the consequences was an effective method. Because in fighting for what one believes in, he/she must be ready to die for that course. The impact these people left behind like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King is something that has been immortalized to date because it was great. Also, I believe there is not the right way to riot; thus, anyway can be termed as right.
I’m afraid I have to disagree with the people that said DR. King and the members should have waited for things to change and do nothing about it. This is because racial oppression and slavery had been going on for centuries, and nothing would have changed if the African Americans did nothing at all. There is a saying that goes, “the world is not evil because of the evildoers but because of the people who watch and do nothing.” Even when the oppression is directed to oneself, stand up, and fight because you may die, but you will pave the way for your followers. Thus, if they waited for the system to change, the nigger would be even more oppressed presently.
