“I wish I were her Nubian Maid.”
This poem talks about the passionate obsession that a young boy has with a girl. Some of the main themes of this poem include:
Love– This seems to be the major theme of this poem where the man wishes to be everything for the woman because he is deeply in LoveLove with her even though the woman is not aware.
Desire- Desire is what drives the LoveLove of the woman by the man, the Narrator (man) has so much desire to get this woman he desires so much. Willing and wishing to do everything for the woman.
“The Beginning of the Song that Diverts the Heart”
This poem is basically about a love triangle. In this case, there are three dynamic speakers where there is the voice of a girl lover who is aware that her boyfriend is having an affair with another girlfriend. The major themes of the poem are:
The love-This theme of LoveLove is illustrated by a girl lover who is aware that her boyfriend is having an affair with another girlfriend. The other girl seems to be the side chick who is also interested in being the man’s main girlfriend.
Desire- This theme is indicated by this side chick’s desire to be the main girlfriend of this man. She is interested in being the main girlfriend of the man, and this is her main wish. (Egyptian 29 Lines 20-21)
Write down some interesting ideas, themes, sources, or connections you discovered about the texts.
There are some interesting in the two poems. However, the theme that interests me in these two poems is LoveLove. I am interested in the fact that people are willing to do anything just for LoveLove. Even though these are a very old lyric poet, they are still relevant today because LoveLove doesn’t change.
