Implications Of Using Music In Teaching Children

As depicted by both the video and the articles, the individuals suffering from the severe head injuries or some diseases that affect the human brain have been associated with some health issues that lead to a decline in cognitive abilities, which affects one’s memory. This has been achieved through the assessment of various cases that have happened in the past. For instance, Gabby and Henry are to patients that have been referenced in the case materials, and they recovered from the mental condition just because of music. Both the videos and the articles highlight the power of music in enhancing one’s mental performance. This analysis focuses on the importance of music, as illustrated in various scenarios and its role in enhancing children’s education.

Henry had had Alzheimer’s disease, and this is a condition that leads to the loss of memory following the decline in cognitive abilities. The power of music is present in this case because whenever the patient was exposed to his favorite music, he became very active and participated in singing. The music made him very happy, and he could speak and remember things that happened long ago. For instance, he was able to remember his favorite music band and specific tracks within than genre. Just the way Henry improved his cognitive abilities when the young children who are yet to develop motor and other skills can benefit from music because it can enhance their memory.

After Gabby sustained serious mental injuries, it was very hard for her to remember anything. Even though she could remember people, communication with her was very complicated because she could not construct sentences to express her thoughts. After many hours of training, Gabby did not improve because she was stuck to a single word for days. Nevertheless, her skills advanced when she as exposed to music. Her ability to sing along a lullaby was a clear indication that music played an important role in helping a patient recover from serious mental conditions. There is a close correlation between nerve functioning and music because once the patient heard the music, she was excited. It seems music sends some nerve impulses to the brains, which triggers some form of excitement.

Music has been depicted as an important part of education, and it is associated with numerous benefits that enable the learning process. From experience portrayed in the reading materials, it is apparent that music promotes mental wellbeing. There is a great connection between brains and music, and this connection can be applied in the school settings to enhance the performance of the learners, specifically children. Through music, children are engaged to learn, and this is shown by Henry’s ability to have a successful conversation immediately after he stopped listening to his favorite music. Before being exposed to music, his health deteriorated to some extent that people thought he would not survive. Further, he was always folding his arms as if he was stressed out, but when the music was hit, he reacted positively with a lot of energy. The case is the same as the bored learners. When they hear music, their brain is prepared for great sounds, and thus facilitate learning.

Therefore, music is an important tool in education settings because of its positive impact on the learners’ brains.  Apart from preparing the brain for learning, music enables students to acquire motor skills like writing, drawing, and others. These are important skills because they are the foundation of learning among children. Music enhances memory, and this ensures that children can easily understand the vocabulary used in the classroom.  Therefore, music should be part of learning among children because it enhances the whole learning experience and facilitates learning.
