Specific purpose: By the end of my speech, the audience will be informed about the importance of education and training for a pharmacy technician.

Thesis statement: Having the proper education and training is vital for a pharmacy technician.

Introduction

1. Attention getter: Hello everyone, my name is Soyoon and I am a former pharmacist technician. Have you ever worried about receiving the correct medication and dose? People that work in a pharmacy whether they be a pharmacist or pharmacist technician are required to have a certain amount of education and training before working in a pharmacy.
2. Introduction of topic: Today I’m going to inform you about the importance of the education and training pharmacy technicians are required to have in order to correctly dispense, file, order medication and many other duties they are required to perform.

• Credibility and relevance: Research and testimonies from former coworkers who are pharmacist technicians.Transition: I will now go over the importance of education and training for a pharmacist technician.

Body

1. Level of education and training required to become a Pharmacist Technician. Pharmacist technicians are required to have at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent along with a pharmacist technician certification license through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
2. Pharmacy Tech, usajobs.gov, states the BASIC requirements to qualify for a pharmacist technician job are: Education or Experience:A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. Certification: Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above. Preferred Experience: One year of specialized experience in a medical center setting.
3. The importance of the PTCB license. All pharmacist technicians once hired, are required to acquire a PTCB license. Having the PTCB license shows employers that you are knowledgeable and competent in the handling of medication.
   1. All my past coworkers who are or have been pharmacist technicians were required to have the PTCB license. One of my coworkers, Harry Olson, specifically said that the PTCB, though very difficult to obtain really helped him and provided him much needed information to make him a successful pharmacist technician.
   2. Elise Teel who is another coworker of mine, said “without my associates degree in pharmacy, the PTCB, and training from both education and on the job training, I don’t think I would have been able to handle all the responsibilities as a pharmacist technician.”

• What does the Pharmacy Technician education consist of? Pharmacy technician training consists of education that covers a wide range of topics related to working in a pharmacy. Technicians learn everything from accounting for a pharmacy’s inventory, and how to compound medicines for special patients.

1. Why is all this education and training necessary? This may seem like a lot of education and training requirement just to become a pharmacist technician however; all of this allows a pharmacist technician to adapt to any challenges they may face in the pharmacy. The main roll of the pharmacy technician is processing prescriptions. They greet the patient and accept their prescription. Next, they input the prescription date into the computer and process the patient ‘s insurance. The pharmacy technician will then fill the prescription and prepare it to be sold to the patient. The pharmacy technician’s job also includes many other duties such as administrative and bookkeeping tasks, inventory control, stocking shelves, and data entry. Without the proper education and training, patients could be given the wrong medication or dose that can lead to death.
