Infernal Affairs
This movie was directed by Alan Mak and Andrew Lau back in the year 2002. The movie is about a police officer who infiltrates a triad while the other police officer works for the same gang but secretly. The main actors of the movie are Chan Wing-yan who is a police officer and Lau Kin-ming who happen to be a member of the triad which Chan joined. The two actors are representing different organizations which area rivals and they are acting as undercover lives for the two organizations. The actors are placed to gain an advantage in intelligence over the other company.
Andrew Lau, one of the directors of Infernal Affairs was a cinematographer who was born in the year 1960 in Hong Kong. He started his career in film directing and producing in the 1980s and 1990s where he served as a cinematographer. He was a photography lover since he was a child and after he completed his secondary education, he joined Shaw Brothers Ltd. His first film he participated in was Legendary Weapons of China as a cinematographer where later he improved his skills to director of films. Alan Mak was born in 1984 and later joined political grounds. This led to his role as a politician in the British parliament where he was given the position of Member of Parliament. In his works, he also acted as the director of several films together with other directors, one of it being the Infernal Affair.
The actors of the movie who include Chan, Lau and Hon Sam play different roles in the movie. Lau Joined the police force under the authority of the triad boss who was Sam. This occurred when Sam sent several young gangsters to the police academy so that they could act like his moles. Chan also joined the academy where later he was suspended from the academy. During this period, Chan happened to be close to the superintendent by the name Wong Chi- Shing and became the undercover of Wong. He acted as the undercover for ten years which was stressful while Lau successfully managed to rise from one rank to another in the police department. It is clear in the movie that when Chan and Lau met for the first time, no one knew the role of each other. Yan was recruited in the Triads even before he completed his studies in the police academy. From the movie, it is clear that both Lau and Chan want to free themselves from the police force which is so thankless.
The movie Infernal Affairs was acted to show how the police officers in China also play the part of criminals. Brotherhood in the movie is well established where we have the Lau and Chan having similar complaints in the police field. The tasks they are involved in, and the way they are treated makes them regret the mission especially where the seniors are not thankful for their efforts. The two actors in the movie play different roles where each has a different path. One was a cop who acted as a gangster most of his life while the other was a gangster who acted as a cop for many years. The fate of the two people is brought together where they are absorbed by the triad to work for the triad as an undercover.
