Information that need documentation
At first, I agree that information can be “common knowledge” or need documentation. Common knowledge is information that is widely known and can be verified easily. However, they can change due to factors like culture, geographic location, and age. Generally, all information that has been published or copyrighted requires documentation. This covers information that has been paraphrased, quoted or even summarized. This also includes all materials that are unpublished because if the content is not “yours,” then one has to give authors credit. To my understanding, I know that information that should be documented usually contain facts that are not broadly known, and their authenticity can be challenged. They also have strong evidence like statistics, figures, graphs and charts unless they are materials of your field research. Also, any claim, assertion or opinion seen as questionable should be documented. Most of the information that does not require documentation are perceived as general knowledge. Also, most of these type of information can be found in other sources like encyclopedias and dictionaries. Additionally, they can also be as a result of field research, through observation or personal experience. Even though “common knowledge” is information that is generally known to readers, they should be documented because they might only be identified in a particular region, culture or age.
When I looked at the “web page A,” on “Dangers of Mixing Bleach with Cleaners,” I just realized that I wasn’t aware of the dangers of mixing bleach with cleaners. This is information that should be documented because not most of the people are aware of it. On the “web page B,” on “Bering Land Bridge,” is a type of common knowledge to a particular culture. This means that other cultures find it difficult to understand this information; therefore, it can be more effective if documented. In the last web page C, on “Google Glass,” I had some idea about Google Glass, but I believe there are more people who may not have an idea about it. As I wind up, it is rare to find common knowledge unless if only a specific factor is considered, then it can be easily identified.
