Meeting the ethical challenges of leadership course involves taking an interdisciplinary approach to leadership ethics that positively impacts diverse academic backgrounds. Throughout the course, the metaphors of light and shadow are repeatedly used as teaching tools in promoting self-assessment skills, ethical decision-making through the application of case study examples, and improving personal ethical actions through skill development. The course enlightened me on moral disengagement as one of the significant aspects of individual behavior and attitudes.
I unexpectedly learned about the current ongoing examinations of the moral theory sources that are surprisingly incorporating several cultures based on the definitions of what can or cannot be done. In my understanding, the religion stand was at the core of morals. However, our daily lives revolve around both theories, which impacts how our leader’s behaviors are defined. Besides, most people are reluctant to recognize the seriousness of the new sets of rules and morals. Therefore, this course enlightened me in presenting the various moral, ethical theories and exploiting them for a better understanding for the future leaders to come.
My best takeout from this course will be on the utilitarianism moral framework, which was based on the argument that ethical choices should be more inclined to focus on their results. In my career line in leadership and my future personal life, I am strongly motivated to define my priorities with the prospects of future outcomes. In managing my interests and visions in life, I intend to focus on my values and virtues. This will be efficient through critically making the right choices concentrating on the results. As an aspiring leader, I believe this skill will give me a sense of direction that will efficiently help me lead and guide my followers towards the best possible outcomes.
