Integrated portal system
The integrated portal system in place will have various functionalities. Some of them include the search option, where there will be a search button in place. This button will facilitate the ease of navigation across the database components. Apart from that, there will also be an enter function, which will be used to store information in the dashboard or database. The portal will also have the feature of report generation, and this will be supported by a backend integrated SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) that will be used in the generation of figures, charts and tables of the various reports stored in the portal (Debenham, & Andersen, 2005).
In its optimal functioning, the integrated portal system is expected to have the capability of connecting 300 parts along with equipment suppliers, control the guided machines within the factory line, enhance the movement of both raw materials and finished goods, predict the replacement of parts as well as automate the ordering of parts. Besides, the portal is also expected to be able to streamline the operations for sound decision making, transaction processing tasks, report generation, data storage, along with enhancing communication with authorized users.

Using this provided example, the users of the system can access various functional areas. This can be done by using the search option button located on the top right of the dashboard. For instance, when a user wants to review any new reports from respective departments within the factory, he or she is only expected to search the name of the department after which reports will then be generated. On the other hand, when it comes to placement of an order, all that the user is expected to do is to click on the partners’ button. This will redirect such a person to a link that outlines the various suppliers to the firm.
The integrated portal system will also have an option of controlling the guided machines in the factory line. In this case, the system will save information about the various machines within the factory. Some of the details, in this case, will include the name of the machine, the manufacturing dates, serial number and the expected dates of scheduled servicing and maintenance.
Besides that, the other functionality of the portal is in regard to enhancing the movement of both raw materials and finished goods. The portal, in regard to the movement of raw materials, will have a tracking system that will be used in monitoring the flow of materials from the suppliers to the factory for processing. Also, the system will have a section where the demand from the clients can be monitored. With this kind of information, it will be easier to ensure that there is sufficient supply of finished goods.
Moreover, the integrated portal system, just as mentioned earlier, will be useful in the prediction of parts replacement. Every component in the manufacturing process will be monitored using the system. In this case, some alerts will be set in the system which will be used in alerting the management of the parts that should be replaced. This will help in ensuring that the manufacturing process flow in a smooth manner (Firestone, 2003).
Besides that, the integrated system can also work in such a manner that automatically places orders on the parts that need to be replaced. In this regard, the users do not have to manually place the order. All that will be expected is feeding the system with information about when the next order for replacement of parts should be placed. With such a system in place, there will be reduced chances of operational breakdown as a result of malfunctioning of the manufacturing parts, and this will thus lead to enhanced efficiency.
Besides that, the system will have a provision that will require the clients to place or rather post their feedback after making their purchases with the firm. Through the use of this feedback system, the management can come up with sound decisions, especially on areas that need improvement as highlighted by the clients. Apart from the provision for feedback, the system should enable the clients to complete their transactions with the firm, and here is whereby there should be a billing section to facilitate this. The clients should be allowed to have some wallets with the firm on signing up to the system. The balance in their respective wallets should enable them to make purchases (Cecchetti, Osuna, & Vinson, 2010).
Last but not least, the data inputted by the various functional areas of the organization should be able to enhance report generation. This will be useful in analyzing the overall performance of the firm in subject. Lastly, data storage is also another critical element that can be supported by the integrated portal system. In this case, information from various departments will be fed and archived in the system.
