Interview on bilingual education

This paper analyzes an interview especially about the use of two languages in teaching. Currently, most of the world countries have taken an approach of using the bilingual technique in the teaching process. Therefore this paper provides basics regarding people’s perspectives, ideas, and comments about bilingualism.

Section one (1)

This section gives a clear conversation indicating the views of the following people on bilingual education. My co-worker, friend, and my mother.

Me: what is bilingual education?

Co-worker: Bilingual language involves using two languages to teach academic concepts.

Friend: Bilingual education is the use of two languages in teaching.

Mother: Bilingual education is where the instructor uses two languages to pass academic contents using instructions to the students.

Me: what is your views and perspectives on bilingual education?

Co-worker: it is a good initiative that is meant to reduce educational criticisms of language among minority students.

Friend: it is a movement that is meant to provide the rights to equal education opportunity to every student without discrimination.

Mother: it is an act that looks like an experiment to promote language and also cultural resources than those of the dominant societies.

Me: what has made you give out your perspectives on bilingual education?

Co-worker: When Latino Immigrant Children arrived in the United States. They were isolated just because of the language they were using.

Friend: Filipino American students viewed Tagalog as irritating and lacked fluency.

Mother: everybody has the right to freedom from discrimination by language, and the power of using the language in various activities in life.

Me: Do you think schools should have bilingual education to those students who need it? And do you believe bilingual is essential or not?

Co-worker: Yes it reduces proficiency issues and also it helps in bringing down the power of the dominating language in the community.

Friend: Yeah. It helps in fighting isolation and discrimination by those using the dominating language. Spanish children experienced loneliness because of their language (Evans 1996)

Mother: Yes. It will help in identifying even the dormant communities in our societies.

Me: what are the benefits of using bilingual education?

Co-worker: Look, California will experience politics that are viable and increasingly weak.

Friend: help in solving issues such as poverty, family illiteracy, and social stigma accompanied by the minority in our societies.

Mother: dormant communities will be recognized, and different communities will be able to know the cultural way of life of other communities.

Section two

Interview with the peer’s group on bilingual education

This part of the paper shows how I interviewed the second group who are the peers about bilingual education.

Me: what is bilingual education?

Peers 1: is the use of two languages in teaching academic context in a particular curriculum.

Peer 2: bilingual language is using two languages to teach those students who are not more proficient another language.

Me: what is your perspective on bilingual education?

Peers 1: First this system expresses the right of every member of the community to accept his/her cultural heritage. It also helps minority students not to be discriminated.

Peer 2: it is good because it will help in fighting stigmatization among the students.

Me: what has propelled you to give out such a suggestion on bilingual education?

Peer 1: there will be cultural diversification among the members of society.

Peers: most of us are facing a lot of challenges especially when we emigrate to new regions maybe when we are searching for education or any other activity we are completely isolated from our colleagues who are using the same languages that are dominating. Consider the situation about the Latino Immigrant Children who faced stigmatization just because they lacked proficiency in English.

Comparison between the first group and the peer’s comments and suggestions on bilingual education

The first group comprised of the co-worker, friend and mother. Both of them had an idea of bilingual education. This awareness created chances to them when they were giving their respective responses. They also showed that they had read some articles about bilingual education when they made citations of those books. On the other side, the peers were also very much aware of bilingual education. For instance, the first peer stated accepting bilingual education which said “First this system expresses the right of every member of the community to accept his/her cultural heritage. It also helps minority students not to be discriminated”. The second peer also accepted the same by saying, “it is good because it will help in fighting stigmatization among the students”. I took the suggestions of the majority, and they supported bilingualism to be included in the curriculum. However, the idea wasn’t far from what the first group provided since they all supported it and quoted as a positive approach in curriculum activities.

Section three

What I have learnt about bilingual education

Bilingual education is a good Idea especially when it comes to changes in curriculum. According to one of my interviewee (mother), Bilingual education is where the instructor uses two languages to pass academic contents using instructions to the students. This program seems like bringing a significant change especially to those learners who are Limited English Proficient. There is a great need for implementing the bilingual language. When I look at the first conversations, they all proposed for the inclusion of bilingual language in the curriculum. Just by giving a specific example, the second interviewee said that the use of bilingual education would also cater for the rights to equal education opportunity to every student without discrimination. This means that those students who were less proficient in language were isolated and even maybe they had the poor quality of education unlike what their colleagues had. The peers also gave their views, let us consider the response I received from the second peer who said that the greatest challenge is isolation and discrimination from the group which is dominating. He gave an illustration of the Latino Immigrant Children who faced stigmatization just because they lacked proficiency in English. The readings and the interviewed question were correctly matching to provide detailed information about the bilingual education from different groups of people. However, the findings are almost the same responses are almost coming to the same ideas as each specific interviewee gave an answer that was positive towards bilingualism.
