IS COLLEGE DEGREE A WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT?
The tuition fee of colleges and universities has doubled in the recent years and this has left many people wondering if attaining a college degree is worth it. We are encouraged by our teachers, parents and guardians to work hard in high school so we may go to college someday since it is associated with better career opportunities like better paying and higher skilled jobs and also it assures stability in our future life.
A college degree is all about exposure and opening up opportunities in life. Many people make the investment of money and time to get a college degree, this is because they know that they want a better career and attaining a college degree is the common known pathway. Though it is not guarantee that when we go to college we would get an idle job in our expert field but people still invest to go to college. This is because college train us other crucial skill like time management, organization and self-discipline that will help us to be a professional individual in any field in the job market.
In the process of earning a degree, we happen to interact with fellow students and professional societies like lectures. These contact could help us build professional networks that can help us learn opportunities in the real world like internship opportunities while we are still in school. They can also help us find jobs or even get a promotion at our work place. Therefore, networking in college is very important in our future career.
Earning a college degree helps in our transition to adulthood. In most case, there is no one around to tell us want to do or when to do it so we are likely to learn this during our time in college. College requires us to overcome challenges that can be from passing tests, completing projects to financial responsibilities and this con be very essential in our adulthood.
Although, other people still think that college is not worth the investment this is because tuition fees
and costs to go college are increasing and future earning are decreasing due overcrowding of college graduates in the job market. And because of this, most college graduates have jobs that do not require a degree and they are earning less money which is not their expectations.
Other also discourage getting a college degree because it is a big investment yet there other cheaper and affordable options that do not require getting a student debt that we are not sure how we are going to pay and one can still acquire the same skills offered on college. And also have a better job without investing a lot of money.
Despite all the argument, earning a college degree has proven to be essential since it prepares us, both intellectually and socially for our career and adulthood life. We also acquire skills along the way that are not taught in class which is an added advantage. Attaining a degree also gives as the opportunity to explore different things and be flexible before committing to our desired ambitions
