Is Facebook responsible for all its content?
Facebook is responsible for all its content. Facebook is an American Online Social Media. It is a social networking service company based in Menlo Park, California. Mark Zuckerberg was its founder. It is one of the big four technology companies.
Ms. Pelosi claims that Facebook should be responsible for all its content. Nancy Pelosi is a speaker in Washington. She is a Democrat and, the most powerful politician. She accuses Facebook of refusing to remove her altered video (Lewis and Joshua). She adds that the company contributes to propaganda. In the modified video, Ms. Pelosi appeared drunk. Her speech was slurred and slowed down. The video appeared online before spreading on YouTube and Facebook. YouTube removed it after seeing that its standards were violated. Facebook retained it.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “I think they have proven — by not taking down something they know is false — that they were willing enablers of the Russian interference in our election.” She strongly rebukes Facebook of allowing misinformation to spread through its media during the last presidential election (Zompetti and Joseph 9). Other politicians said that the company was supposed to act faster to stop it.
Zompetti and Joseph reported that during an interview with KQED, a public radio station, Ms. Pelosi said:
“We have said all along, poor Facebook, they were unwittingly exploited by the Russians. I think wittingly because right now they are putting up something that they know is false.”(9)
The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, investigated for two years and found out that Russia used disinformation on Facebook to damage Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Intelligence officials have confirms that Russian agents used Facebook to spread false information to stir chaos during the election (Zompetti and Joseph 9).
Conclusion
Facebook is responsible for all its content. Facebook’s unwillingness to remove the altered video is lying to the public. YouTube took down Ms. Pelosi’s video. Facebook was supposed to do the same. It should not allow disinformation to spread through its service.
