Islam phobia- legitimate case of disguised hatred?
Religion can be defined as an organized form of worship that more than one person ascribes to. This belief system tends to govern and control one’s actions due to the simple fact that the person in question is able to perceive life in a manner that coincides with the belief that he or she holds. Religion is often a delicate topic to handle, due to the fact a number of people tend to hold a rigid frame of mind that is rarely open to divergent views on the subject. However, in the post-millennial era, there has been a particular religious belief that has seemed to court controversy from various social circles. Islam tends to have more notable detractors who exhibit similar traits that vary from fear to abject hatred. In the United States, there has been a particular rise in Islam phobic remarks made by prominent individuals. Therefore, this project will seek to investigate the oppression that Islamic adherents in America are subjected to, giving a neutral take on the subject matter to find out if there are legitimate concerns that need to be addressed. The project will seek to create a picture as to how the abject fear and hatred of Muslims has affected their livelihoods.
Given the nature of the project, the audience for the presentation would be the archetypical American citizen, who holds strong opinions on the sociopolitical scenery of America. The main reason for such an audience is for the purpose of creating awareness on this issue with a view to effect social change. The materials will be presented in a word format as well as a pdf file that will form part of the overall zine for the project.
