The idea of death to me has always been an emotive issue. I am still clouded with feelings of fear and sadness each time I think of my death or even the death of somebody close to me. When reading the Japanese death poems, the subject of death seems comfortable since they all describe death as inevitable. This description by the poets of death as being inevitable has fostered a different outlook on the issue of death. There is no point in pondering death since it will always be there; therefore, I would instead focus on living a full life because it will not always be there. This new realization sprouts from the poets’ accounts who, on their death beds, thought on whether they had lived full lives and some even thought of death as the end of a life well-lived.
