Journal Entry Question 9
Like most people, I have a phobia for heights since I always find myself panicking whenever I am too high off the ground. My fear for heights is so bad that I even panic when I find my friends have invited me to a meet up in a location where I have to get to one of the top floors. My phobia for heights manifests itself through the need to descend immediately. I think I am too high, feeling paralyzed, sweating, shaking, increased heart rate, and dizziness. One of the ways that I have learned to deal with this phobia is by educating myself all I can on the fear of heights. My interest in learning all things about this phobia is because it is a high-risk one since I have noted that I am at risk of having a panic attack when I am too high off the ground. Through educating myself, I have learned numerous relaxation techniques to aid me in overcoming this fear. Some of the relaxation techniques that I have come to adopt include deep breathing, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and yoga. Getting someone to talk to is also something that has helped me deal with my fear for heights since before I opened up to someone about it, I thought no one would understand me. However, by getting someone to talk to, I have come to learn that being afraid of height is normal.
