Kingdom Come photography
The inspiration for my photograph was drawn from the Land of the eagle photograph by Audun Rikardsen. The picture captures the eagle’s power, which became accustomed to a carefully positioned branch of an old tree. Th photograph was captured near Rikardsen’s home in Northern Norway. The photo is among the many collections of pictures of the eagle by Rikardsen. He positioned the branch to capture the best behavioral images of the bird. Rikardsen attached a camera to a tripod head together with motion sensors and flashes to capture the images. He positioned a hideout sport a short distance away and left roadkill carrion frequently to attract the bird. The frequent appearance of the bird made it possible to capture the stunning photograph.
The photograph’s emotional aspect is depicted by the ambiance elicited by the setting and appearance of the photo. It clearly shows the eagle’s talons outstretched in a commanding view of its coastal kingdom. This can be translated as a show of power that inspires courage in our daily lives and environments. Similarly, the photograph’s story inspires patience and planning in photography, which I employed in my project. Rikardsen had to wait for three years for the perfect moment to capture the eagle in its realm.
My photograph is titled ‘Kingdom Come,’ and it depicts a bear in its natural habitat. At the onset of hibernation, the bear must consume enough meals to last it through this period. As such, it often hunts, including during the early dawn of the day. This feeding spree will consume insects, fish, and small animals and be considered a fierce predator in its habitat, hence the title Kingdom Come.
A clear thematic connection between my photograph and Land of the eagle exists in the animals’ dominant characteristics photographed. Both images depict power, authority, and dominance. They convey a similar message of confidence and control of our environments in daily life experiences. However, the two photographs are distinguished by the general atmosphere portrayed. Whereas the Land of the eagle shows more light displaying some sense of positivity, Kingdom Come is slightly darker, producing a more grim feeling.
Both photographs’ medium has a slight difference, although both contain just one subject and an environment. Hence, the composition of both pictures may have varying viewpoints and emotions of different viewers. The medium is an essential element in shaping the thought and feeling of a given piece of art.
