Labor and Class
Working class is a term that is viewed differently by different people. We have a group of people who see it as a group of lazy, unproductive failures with no focus while other media view working class as educated, hard-working, blue-collar and low-waged individuals. The level of an individual in a work environment can be criticized by different media. Working class jobs require a lot of strength due to criticism that is associated with some of the jobs. The class of an individual is maintained by endurance and hard work which differentiates one individual to another in the same working environment.
Gender inequality is a common labor issue that affects most organizations. This is where women are not given equal chances to men as they are believed to be weak species. Gender inequality occurs where women are not given equal opportunities and rewards as men who make them discriminated from some positions while in the workplace. Gender inequality is a big issue that has heightened the gap between the class of the employed. This is because women are given lower positions in the workplace as compared to men which have led to women dragging behind in their developments because all the top positions are reserved for men. Women are also discriminated when it comes to rewarding them. Bearing the fact that they are not in the same class of employment, they get reduced pay as compared to men who are on a higher level. A woman and a man in the same position are not paid same where women are paid less than men, yet they are in the same position.
Gender inequality arises where we have women trying to balance work, family, and their personal life. They are viewed by their male colleague to be unable to conduct activities that can be conducted by men due to their responsibility. Balancing their family and work makes them secure lower positions in the workplace which contribute to their discrimination. Stereotyping is another cause of gender inequality as women are believed to be weak which means that they cannot handle most of the activities conducted by men.
The issues presented by gender inequality include unequal pay where men are paid higher than women. Women are given lower positions which make them feel inferior while in the working environment. Gender inequality increases women discrimination in the workplace which can lead to increased job turnover where women quit the job due to unfair treatment. Women also become less hopeful with the organizations they work in as they are viewed as less productive hence fewer chances are preserved for them. Women also become stressed up when they are in an organization where they are discriminated.
According to an American Journal written by Nikki Waller and Joann S. Lublin, women are not given top positions in the workplace because they are believed to spend more time with their families. This is true for some women, but it is not proved because we have some women who have house helps to take care of house chores. Despite the fact that some women desire big ranks in the workplace, the society believes that women should not lead men hence require lower position which promotes gender inequality in the ranking of working-class individuals. It’s true some women are afraid to take top roles in the companies which makes them secure low positions. In most organizations, men are likely to get promoted to the next level easily compared to women which heighten the gap of inequality.
To minimize the effects of gender inequality in organizations, labor unions plays vital roles in ensuring that all employees regardless of their class are treated equally. Labor unions are responsible for increasing wages for all employees, raising the standard of living for the employees as well as increasing the benefits of all employees and their families. They are the hope of most organizations that assist in minimizing the disparities in the workplace.
The working class people face challenges in twitter where the issue of gender inequality is the subject. This is because people support that all working class individuals should be treated equally if they are working on the same level. His translates to equal pay, promotions, responsibility which will ensure healthy work environment without prejudices. The views made on Twitter show that all humans deserve the same. If its leadership, the positions should be divided equally so that the potential of all employees is utilized. Working class women are working hard to make investments which will help in achieving equality for all gender. Women on Twitter have expressed their ability to do all that men can do which means they deserve equal treatment as men of their equal level. Labor unions are sometimes applied to help women get their rights equally to men which empower them. This reduces chances of women being victimized in work environment due to their weak nature.
Twitter is used by unions to share information on better employees’ treatment. Different people and organizations partner in Twitter to ensure that diverse and inclusive workforce is achieved through sharing information relevant to the inclusion of all employees. Through Twitter, it is easy to monitor the progress of a program implemented in a working environment which will guide whether unions are required to enhance the working environment.
The experiences and perspectives of men and women working in the same environment is different. This is because they are not given same ground despite the efforts made by women in ensuring that they are treated equally to men within the same working environment. The propaganda spread regarding the role of women in society by the media increase the disparities between men and women working under the same conditions (Week 2). When information is propagated by prominent people, it is likely that the information will be accepted as the news which can be used in a working environment. If union movement can promote gender equality in the workplace by spreading information to show the importance of gender equality, working class people will work by the information which will offer equal opportunities to all.
The way employees of a company portray their image to the society acts as they base for judgment by media. If one party of employees of a company is discriminated due to the gender or race, the media will view working class individuals as not united. Broadcasting of such information makes the society view labor and class as not pleasing which groups the working class individuals as for the less educated and unfocused. From the information contained in Facebook regarding working class individuals, more promotions and challenging tasks are given to men, and they secure topmost positions in an organization. This information enlarges the bias between men and women while in the organization. The way media perceive working-class men make them more confident in pursuing executive role, and they feel more strong than their employer in rewards merit.
Most social media support that women also contribute to gender inequality in the organizations as they feel that promotions are awarded fairly to the best employees. This means that they are not interested in acquiring top positions in the organization and even some of them believe that their gender can make it harder for them to advance in future. This is an indication that women portray their weakness to the society which makes them perceived as weak species and those that are not ready to work in a more challenging environment. The disparities in the workplace begin at the entry level where men have 30% higher chances to get promoted as compared to women which extend the variation the other levels. This brings about the difference in payment as well as rank when considering the classification of employees.
The perception of media on working class people makes them believe that women are not as powerful as men when exposed to the same challenging task which extends gender disparities in the organization. Many social media portray the weakness of women in social media which makes them treated unfairly when it comes to employment. Labor movement joins to defend the rights of women working for in organizations so that they are given same opportunities and rewards as male counterparts.
Propaganda regarding the way labor and class are related is more common in public organizations and where the media is public which means any information can be propagated. Private media are sensitive to the information t be broadcasted which means it is hard to broadcast propaganda to the society regarding employment issues (Week 2). The way individuals perceive labor guide media on how employees are treated and managed in an organization. This is because the media depend on ownership and propaganda when rating individuals within the society and the views aired by the media regarding labor and labor movements depend on information contained within individuals.
The leaders of a business drive the economy where they establish a good working condition for all employees. The films document events, movements or persons which means all information contained in the films depends on individuals way of thinking (Week 4). Work was done even in the historic time, and gender inequality issue has been common to most organizations even in the past. This is where women were believed to be more perfect in household chores as compared to farming other tedious activities. This notion extended to working-class individuals where women are given minimal responsibilities and less challenging activities which they can manage.
Films as a media source have indicated the perception of labor since historic time and how the employed people were perceived by others in the society. Since media include human thoughts and propaganda, it is clear that working-class individuals create a picture to the society which they are viewed with. The inactivity of women compared men as portrayed in the media is from the way employed women escape jobs that are more demanding and avoid more responsibilities in the workplace so that they can have a balance between families and jobs. This makes them weak species in the organization they work in which increase the gap of the different between men and women in the workplace.
Women in power are viewed as extraordinary people by men as they have characters that are not common to other women. From the history of labor, women have always worked under the leadership of men which indicates that they have been viewed by the media as weak compared to men (Week 4). Documentaries are other media sources that contain information on labor and class. They criticize the work environment using drama which is viewed and gives the society the real working environment as portrayed in an organization. For gender inequality, the pay difference and power given to each person in a working environment indicates the how disparities are common for working class people.
Advertising is another media that heighten the gap between men and women who are working in the same environment. This is because some jobs are given specifications that suit men only which rules out any woman applicant who can be willing to participate in the same position. The odd hours for some working-class individuals favor men more than women which also exaggerate gender inequality. The newspaper also as a media extends the disparity between men and women in work because they disclose information on how organizations operate especially where labor unions fail to create a good working environment for all employees.
Films depict the reality of how labor and class apply in the working environment. They act as good sources of issues that arise in a working environment which require working class individuals to change the mentality of society by promoting good working condition and minimizing disparities in the work environment. Through this, the media can get the right picture for labor and class, unlike the way it is viewed in the contemporary period.
