Lack of Affordable Housing as A Public Health Problem.
The presence of unfordable housing is a significant concern to the public’s health more than other issues (Keable, 2017). Several diseases are caused by inadequate housing and sometimes being in a homeless situation. The health problem is associated with not having the right house. Include respiratory diseases, having a good house promote good physical and mental health while houses with a deplorable condition such as poor drainage, poor ventilation, and cold conditions will increase mortality for both infants and aging population, due to diseases. The effects of being homeless or living in houses with poor conditions can lead to lead poisoning, which in return causes irreversible damage in the brain’s nervous system. Other health problem includes increased risk of cardiovascular disease, tuberculosis, respiratory infection, and psychological distress.
The purpose of analyzing the affordability of housing and concerning public health is to determine how specific populations in society, especially children in the Bay area, are affected by deploring housing conditions. As nurses, most patients under the age of ten suffer from a similar disease caused by low living standards. Therefore, if those conditions get improved, it will reduce the workload for hospitals and, in particular, reduce the mortality rate among the infants and the aging population. As for today, many people can’t afford a house in good condition or a large population, which is more than five hundred thousand people are homeless in the united states. Therefore, translate to most of them who can’t afford health care insurance or even afford subscription medicine. Therefore, it is essential for me as a nurse to take into consideration the core causes of illness in the society I serve.
This research paper aims to shed light on social issues such as housing, the causes of the social issue, and how low housing can be managed to promote good health for all. It is challenging to solve the housing problem, but if various measures are taken into consideration, it will likely reduce the number of victims who suffer from unfordable housing problems.
The absence of affordable housing causes a significant impact on public health. Considering the increase in living costs is expected to be a long-lasting problem for a considerable period. Therefore, having medical outreach to access patients who can’t afford or access the hospital will reduce the problem. The measures involve access to proper ventilation, warm clothing during cold seasons, and avoiding overcrowding will help tap respiratory diseases, psychological stress among the children and the aging population.
