Law enforcement scandal
Introduction
The law enforcement scandal is the inappropriate conduct and also the illegal acts that are done by law officers. various ways explain the scandals fo example; failing or refusing to perform their duties and also behaving disgracefully during duty time or off duty. These enforcement scandals may have a grating effect on the community and also the nation and necessary ways to curb this should be put in place.
Law enforcement scandal
Various misconduct issues are done by the law enforcers that go unrecognized but greatly affect the society while some misconducts are known but later ignored since they the done by the law enforcers or recorded evidence may be deleted and by these, they are set free. To control the police misconduct the civilian agencies are engaged in investigations and also the filming of police activities to make them accountable for their actions
For example;
video recording where police are found abusing their power in the public.
Major players in the scandal
The reason behind the law enforcement scandal is brought about by personality of the law enforcers in that they do the misconduct with their consciousness and they are sure of what they are doing and also the culture of law enforcers(Baker, (2017). Another reason for the law enforcement scandal in education, where the law officers are not well educated on how to treat people I the community and with better-educated officers there will be fewer cases of police misconduct (Adisa, Alabi, & Adejoh, (2018).Another reason for the law enforcement scandal is the lack or minimal supervision whereby this they hey do everything as they wish since they are not monitored by anybody.
How the scandal has affected the relationship between the law enforcements’ and the community
There are various ways that the police enforcement scandal has deprived their relationship with the community
For example;
i)The community has lacked trust in the law enforcers since their cases that are reported may be crime cases but the police are seen not to do anything about it and by this even they are seen not to have any responsibility in protecting the community(Ahlin, & Lobo Antunes, (2017).
ii)There is hatred between the law enforcers and the community since the police use force where they even misuse their weapons which are seen to be unfair.
How police discretion contributed to law enforcement scandal
This is a decision-making process where the officers have the power to evaluate the situations and decide on the course of action. Police officers misuse this power when they base their law on a suspect’s race, gender, or other characteristics. Some other officers may abuse use their power of discretion in that they make certain law enforcements favoring certain groups or individuals.
Changes made in the department because of the law enforcement scandal
Certain changes were done to curb the law enforcement scandals which include
i)use of special prosecutors in police misconduct investigations where special officers investigate and gather evidence of the alleged police misconduct before determining if an arrest is warranted.
ii)training of all law enforcement officers on how to conduct their elves and by this, it will help in curbing the misconducts associated with the officers.
iii)increase in the oversight of police officers whereby this they are close; ly monitored and by this, they will only act where necessary since they are sure they are accountable for any misconducts.
Conclusion
Law enforcement scandal is a big deal to the community and curbing it is the recommended thing since both the police enforcers and the community are all human in general and should all work together in love,.peace and harmony and for a stable nation.
