Great
leaders are required for the success of critical organizational projects.
Notably, leaders have different strengths that enable them to lead and inspire
the team members to support the goals of the organization. Strengths allow the
leader to act as a coordinator and offer direction, where there is a plan of
action on how to proceed and focus attention on a particular task to be
achieved.
Leadership
Strengths
Communication
Communication skills are critical as they promote healthy working
relationships. As a leader, proper communication is essential to ensure that
team members are informed as this helps them develop a sense of belonging.
Listening to the team members and appreciating their contribution is among the
strengths, and convey my visions to others. Establishing an environment where
individuals can comfortably express their opinions is critical to avoiding
conflict.
Self-Confidence
This is a
great strength because it motivates the team members as they feel there are no
traces of doubtfulness. Confidence is critical as I was able to admit where I
am not familiar with anything, and involve the team members in finding a
desirable resolution. Furthermore, this is a strength that allows them to have
faith within the team members and ensure that they will handle a particular
situation (Rath, Conchie & Magazine, 2009). Therefore, it is a strength
that enhances empowerment among the team members and helps deliver the
qualities that ensure empowerment among the employees and thus increase performance.
Teamwork
Human
beings learn a lot through participation. As a leader, teamwork is critical to
not only organizing the teams but also participating in the team. Collaboration
is critical in resolving issues, especially the ones which require a sense of
urgency. Therefore, diverse groups tend to integrate their expertise, which
results in a successful resolution.
Enthusiastic
As a
leader, I tend to be committed to completing the task at hand. I have been able
to overcome the shortcomings of procrastination, and thus focusing on ensuring
that the team members fully participate and avoid delays.
Opportunities for Growth in Leadership
Leading within an organization
Leadership
tends to be a set of behaviors and not a formal role. One can always act as a
leader even though they have not been assigned any formal position within an
organization that requires leadership. For example, within the organization,
one can develop new projects, new initiatives, or even the old projects that
have not been solved in the past.
Assignments Outside the Job
This
requires the leader to take assignments even within the community. Volunteer
opportunities in the community are critical to helping the leader as they
represent diverse situations that one can always strengthen their leadership.
Community opportunities provide various and essential leadership
responsibilities. One should engage in activities outside of their jobs so they
can participate for a short period.
Education
formal education is an opportunity to advance
education. Learning about leadership in a classroom setting is not a
replacement for practice, but it is essential for laying a foundation. One can
pursue many different forms of leadership that will help to add to leadership
knowledge.
Strategies for Turning Opportunities into Leadership
Strengths
Set realistic goals for development.
Goals are critical to promoting the development of
leadership strengths and skills. After these strengths that have been
shortlisted, this will determine the areas that will need improvement.
Therefore, with realistic future career goals, provides the necessary focus and
direction. This provides an opportunity to measure the progress and see the
improvement made. The well-defined goals will help to create progress and also
will boost motivation through repeated success. For example, in becoming a
better communicator, then one of then a realistic goal might be to enroll in a
communication course. This helps exploit the opportunity of education that
helps promote leadership strength.
Blend different styles for different scenarios
In the interactive process, I used different
leadership styles for different situations. This enabled them to sometimes take
control, which contributed to strength (Sengupta, Chakrabarti, &
Mukhopadhyay, 2018). In this case, the community opportunities, especially
considering the different leadership styles, will enhance strengths such as
communication and organization. This a critical strategy, especially taking
into consideration the volunteering opportunities that exist in the community.
Balance tendencies and improve the overall habits
This is a strategy that entails learning how to deal
with diverse weaknesses. Thinking critically about the actions that I should
take as a leader and enhance balance. For instance, streamline over delegation
even though it is evident that a situation might benefit from a leader’s
guidance.
Strategies to leverage other’s Strengths
Know the strengths of others
This can be achieved through undertaking a strength
assessment and strengths spotting and paying attention to what other people
like doing, what they do well, and what might excite them. Thereafter, it is
imperative to complement an individual on that strength. Identifying the
strengths of the collaborators will promote motivation.
Encourage Team Strength Conversation
Team members are allowed to say the aspects of a
project that they have the expertise and enjoy doing. Each member talks about
their strength to making a specific project a success (Froidevaux, Alterman
& Wang, 2020). Through discussing the strengths and organizing work, team
members are capable of dividing the diverse tasks based on what is good. This
provides more motivation for the team members to tackle a specific situation,
which in turn contributes to the organization’s goals.
Assign roles based on strengths
Conversations help break down the different
functionalities into segments assigned to the team members based on their
strengths. Great teams integrate people with complementary strengths as each
team member is excited about what they are good at. For example, you might find
one person is good at generating ideas, and another one is good at organizing
the information. Assigning roles helps in.
