Learning Analysis

This course teaches the approach to evaluate reasoning through the application of critical thinking in assessing the evidence. The process of critical thinking starts with the identification of the conclusion and the issues involved or cause and effect. Proper reasoning is the one that convinces that the effect is a result of the identified cause. As a result, the next step in evaluating reasoning is to find and assess the reasons which a speaker uses to connect the cause and effect. Improper reasoning occurs where the speaker uses the wrong or incomplete cause to convince about the impact and might make someone develop a false conclusion (Browne, 2013). People are not free from the effect of assumptions, values, and prejudices and hence, might flaw in showing the relationship between a cause and effect, leading to fallacy in reasoning.  However, other areas contribute to errors in reasoning, for example, lack of knowledge about the subject matter. The process of critical thinking, as a result, continues with evaluating the speaker’s assumptions and values to identify fallacies in reasoning.

Evidence, on the other hand, depends on different elements such as the experience of a person in intuitions, expertise statistical significance. The elements guide in critical analysis of the evidence to find out whether it qualifies to connect the cause and effect. In summary, the course teaches to have in-depth critical thinking about reasons supporting the cause and effect since they are susceptible to flaws.

Relationship between the Concepts to Nursing and Healthcare

Accuracy and quality of decisions are essential elements in nursing and healthcare because of the field nature in dealing with life and the expected support of patient health. Nurses, therefore, use the concept of questioning the credibility of the information source to ensure that they are using interventions that have evidence of error-free and effectiveness. They also use the idea of assessing different fallacies in reasoning to identify the validity of the connection between a cause and effect. Although there can be several causes of an impact, nurses seek to maximize patient outcomes and hence, need to have a significant cause. As a result, they use the concept of questioning reasons to identify fallacies in confusing cause and effect to have the most precise evidence-based care.

Impact of Learning on Personal Nursing Practice

This course has changed my nursing practice to an approach of detailed questioning of the various provided, learned, and researched patient care practices. My thoughts were that researchers and speakers in the field are correct as long as they are medical practitioners and academic researchers. However, I have learned that values and assumptions can impact evidence creating the need for questioning their role before application in my practice. Another impact of the course in my practice is on evaluating alternative causes of an effect before accepting the author or speaker’s conclusion. I have realized that there can be fallacies in confusing causes and effects which might provide ineffective nursing practices. The course has, in general, provided me with critical thinking skills to help me distinguished quality nursing practices.
