Letter to the editor
I am writing with deep sorrow in my heart concerning the ongoing incidences of violence in our country. I just broke the news of the death of Martin Luther King to my fellow countrymen, and the circumstances under which he lost his life are so devastating. Since you are in a better position to reach almost all the country members in one go, I would love you to publish my message of humanity and compassion in your newspaper.
This country’s population constitutes different races, but it is my appeal that we learn to embrace and live together as a community regardless of the color of the skin. Martin lost his life in an ongoing war to ensure that black people are accorded the respect they deserve. Additionally, he was fighting racial segregation against the black people, and my question to my fellow countrymen is, ‘what do we gain by treating the black as if they are not one of our own?’
I would love to encourage the citizens of this country to pick up some lessons from the late Martin. He spread the news of love and compassion as the only tool for making progress as a nation. My advice is that we should drop all the hate, bloodshed, and spite we have towards each other. I would also encourage the citizens to trust the justice system to track down the perpetrators of Luther’s murder and, additionally, all other acts of injustices that happen in the country.
In conclusion, I would like you to spread the news of unity and love among American citizens. What we need as a people is not lawlessness and violence, but love, wisdom, integration, and compassion so that we can make major developmental moves.
