LGBTQ population
Development of the LGBTQ population has been an umbrella population that has been capturing various stories of their struggle and strength in diverse people, societies, and cultures across the world (Wagaman 2015, pp. 124-149). In the past LGBTQ, the community was perceived to be non-normative and were discriminated against in society. This prompted the LGBTQ community to implement movements to fight for their rights and justice to love, live, and thrive. Today, despite the world culture being shaped by different attitudes and structures towards ethnicity, race, gender, class, nation, and the ability LGBTQ community are recognized in some cultures and societies across the world like in America. In contemporary China, the LGBTQ population has been growing significantly since the 21st century due to the development of LGBTQ movements to protect the region’s population rights. A more substantial and more diversified LGBTQ population has developed in China with a more tolerant attitude from the Chinese government and the community. According to Damm (2018), over 1000 agencies for the LGBTQ community were developed by 2012 in different parts of China, with various online groups being formed for addressing the issues of the LGBTQ community in China (158-178). This has made the LGBTQ community to attract attention from mass media, the public, and society in China and across the world.
