Limitation of the study
Despite being research that was conducted successfully, some limitations and challenges can be traced and were identified. Some articles lacked proper citation and references to prove their sincerity. Being a period of covid 19 pandemics, some sites prioritized safety alerts instead of daily articles update affecting the access to some essential scholarly resources. The process has been challenging as most of the information, and the entire process was happening online. It has been tiresome but suitable for exploration.
Conclusion
In conclusion, depression in the elderly is a topic that demands a lot for full discussion and elaboration. Older adults are more than vulnerable in mental health complications due to the older age and reduced immune strength. Factors associated with depression in the elderly are as follows; age, gender, poor health status, alcoholism and substance abuse, physical activities, poverty, and lonely life. All these are factors when combined, can bring and deteriorates the health condition of the elder in our societies. It is, therefore, recommenced and advisable that all the management measures be taken seriously and should focus on addressing the root cause of the depression. Before the management and treatment process launch, it’s appropriate for other diseases associated with depression to be assessed and diagnosed; this will help in the recovery process and proper management process. (Avasthi, A. and Grover, S., (2018.). These diseases are mostly non-communicable diseases such as heart diseases, cerebral atherosclerosis, etc. When talking about physical illness concerning depression in the elderly, there are high chances that it’s associated with heart diseases and other chronic infections. This brings and confirms the association between depressions other non-communicable disorders. Lastly, each and everyone must practice healthy habits because old age is waiting for everyone, no escape unless otherwise.
