Lincoln and Washington are considered to be one of the best presidents America had; they both could compromise domestic accomplishments, integrity, and executive ability to run the nation well. Abraham Lincoln was a humble man who thought to rise to greatness through many; leadership qualities he possessed. He had quality traits, which was admirable to many people. His excellent leadership is probably gained through his impoverished upbringing, which formed good bonds with his folks. He was able to show his country that an ordinary person who had strong integrity was capable of inspiring others to greatness.
On the other hand, washing was able to listen to different opinions, which enabled him to unite his nation. They both had excellent leadership ability to appoint the right people for the right jobs in the cabinet. This helped them to gain more political adversaries.
Public Persuasion
Lincoln was more preoccupied with withholding public persuasion as compared to Washington. His good persuasion ability was well witnessed during the civil war times; the respect for public opinion was well tied to the respect for his public language. He was able to understand the language to use to his audience; he had the whole life attest to strength and sincerity when addressing his people (Williams, 154). On the other hand, Washington did not understand well how to address the public.
Crisis Leadership
On handling crisis, Lincoln built a cabinet that was strong by accommodating dissent. He includes his rivals from the Republican Party to reduce the political instability of the nation. He was equally deft in relating to the public (Williams, 154). Washington, on the other hand, fought with his rivals to ensure that he remains the leader of the nation. During his time in office, there were more crises for the government as compared to Lincoln.
Economic Management
Lincoln was famous in abolishing slavery, preserving the union, and leading the nation to end civil wars. This led to long-lasting changes in the US economy. During his time in office, the country witnessed an improvement in the economy as compared to the Washington era.
Moral Authority
Three years ago, the historic presidential ranking indicated that Washington had more moral authority compared to Lincoln(Woldman, 8). Washington feared partisanship because he knew it was to lead to the spirit of revenge, where the party men won’t govern well for the good of his people. He stamped more moral authority in his leadership as compared to the Lincoln leadership.
International Relations
As a critical military strategy, Lincoln blocked the south from navigating to the nation; this almost brought a crisis in doing international relations with other countries. They could not navigate to the nation. International laws did not well take it. As for Washington, he allowed other nations to trade freely with the US.
Administrative Skills
Lincoln had soft skills as compared to washing, which was rational. Lincoln always encouraged healthy debate. Throughout his career, as a lawyer and a politician, he developed incredible critical thinking skills that were essential in running the nation.
Relations with Congress
Lincoln is considered as the best president America had; he had a good relationship with his congress. He had a difficult time as a commander in chief of the nation because he had opened a revolt against slaveholding.
Vision / Setting an Agenda
Lincoln had a clear vision of establishing overarching goals of the nation as compared to Washington. He had proper administration and shaped well all his policies of discourse.
Pursued Equal Justice For All
During the Lincoln era, he fought for justice to his people; he is known to fighting in abolishing the slave trade. This led to a political crisis for his nation, but he later overcomes it. On the other hand, Washington too persuaded for equal justice for his people only, not for other countries.
Performance within the Context of Times
On political performance, Lincoln stood as the best president of the nation. He united his people and stabilized the economy of the country. During his time in office, political instability for the nation was rarely witnessed.
Conclusively, it is indicated that Lincoln’s leadership style was best for the Americans. He was able to show his country that an ordinary person who had strong integrity was capable of inspiring others to greatness. He was able to listen to other opinions, which enabled him to unite his nation.
