Looking at Psychology Principles
Question 1
Psychology, as a study, focuses on mental and behavioral issues. By applying the principles of psychology we can understand various aspects of individual and group behavior. Through the principles, we can understand various issues such as family and work and its effects on the behavior of individuals. Additionally, these principles help in the analysis of the reaction of people when placed in group situations. Mainly, there is an understanding of the reasons underlying the satisfaction of individuals, which can be based on companionship, power, status, or security, among others (Lumen, 2020). The development of personal identity is also better understood as a factor influenced by the association to the group and also the adoption of new group identities. This also helps in determining the perception of various factors such as risk in the group setting as well as an individual. Also, the pressures that the group places on individuals can be understood as a key factor in the development of personal and group characteristics. Psychological principles enable the understating of individual roles in groups, with some group members being leaders and spearheading the behavior adopted by the group, which is an important perspective in understanding the development of group roles.
Question 2
Deviant behavior is any action that contradicts laws or social norms. Deviance has two main parameters – formal and informal deviance. Formal deviance looks at behavioral deviations that violate written laws. Some examples include murder and assault. Informal deviance looks at violations that go against social norms such as nose-picking. Formal deviance often carries heavier penal consequences as compared to informal deviance. Additionally, formal deviance is less acceptable as compared to informal deviance. Both forms of deviance have a negative implication on the public view. Some of the therapy involved in deviant behavior includes using appreciation or compliments for the desired behavior. There is also pharmacological therapy for deviant behavior, especially deviant sexual behavior which looks at the application of suppressing hormones as neutralizing agents.
Question 3
Psychological principles have a key consideration of the individual differences by looking at the differences among individuals in a setting. This is by understanding that people are unique in various aspects. As such, they have different responses to various situations. These differences may be determined by education, intelligence levels, cognitive, and personal traits. Also, aspects such as gender, experiences, and genetics may play a critical role in the development of various behaviors in individuals. By looking at psychological principles, we can determine the effect of these differences and factors on the individuals, thus leading to a greater understanding of the unique development in behavior. By looking at factors that are generally stable over time, there is a better understanding of the causal influences that lead to the development of differences (Penn, n.d.). In this way, there is also the possibility of making a prediction on the outcome of individuals based on their experiences. Also, by looking at the psychological principles, we can understand the factors that favor individuals to maintain social interactions. As such, feelings, interactions, and thoughts and its influence on the development of social psychology are made possible, which helps in understanding the different factors that drive personal interaction in individuals.
Question 4
Psychology has an important role in various fields. To industry, psychology has a critical role in understanding the motivation behind employees. This is a key factor that can be used to determine the appropriate strategies for increasing productivity. In complex organizations, psychology can be used in the understanding of various human behavior, which is important in directing the organization on strategies to adjust to consumer or employee needs. In law practice, psychology is an important perspective in determining the mindset of criminals for the purpose of determining cases. Also, psychology in law can be used in investigation purposes to make the connections among unrelated subjects. In education, the use of psychology is important in developing processes that are necessary for improving the learning environment as well as in advancing knowledge in the field through theories for an increased understanding of human behavior.
