Research Ethics
- Looking at the Preamble to the Code of Ethics explains what it is and what is the purpose of the code.
The code of ethics is a set of principles and ethical standards whose purpose is to guide sociologist’s scientific and professional responsibility and their conduct. They are used to examine the scientific and professional activities. It contains policies that describe the procedure of filling, investigating, resolving complaints on unethical behavior.

- Principle 1: Professional Competence
Competence requires that employees work on tasks that are within the constraints of their expertise, such as education, experience, and training. In this, there is recognition of an ongoing education that involves the utility of scientific, professional, and administrative skills.
principle 2: Integrity
This requires that sociologists exhibit fairness, honesty, and respect for others in professional activities. Every action would not be in a way that would jeopardize self or other people
principle 3: Professional and Scientific Responsibility.
Sociologists are typically researchers, and therefore, they are to respect the work of the other even if they disagree. The interest of this principle is trust between the sociologists and t also build trust with the public.
principle 4: Respect for People’s Rights, Dignity and Diversity
This principle strives to remove bias and treat all people equally. People should not be, therefore, discriminated against based on gender, politicization affiliation, race, nationality, or any other variable on discrimination. Sociologists should be sensitive to differences in individual, cultural and role differences and know how to hand the varied distinct characteristics.
- Principle5: Social Responsibility.
This is the responsibility that sociologists have towards communities and society in which they work and live in. Therefore, the activities they engage in should be of best interest to the organization.

Code of ethics is essential in sociological testing to acts as limits beyond which individuals cannot exceed. It provides equality and promotes general uniformity. It also would give standardization, making the sociological experiments fair and reliable.
