Love Demands
Most folks are not ready to come into terms with this unappealing fact, but love is a give-receive endeavour. You might jump up and down, yap all day about how materialistic love has become, but it is what it is, love demands. Even Jesus won’t give his for free, if you don’t turn from your wicked ways you heathen, you shall burn.
I remember sometimes back in campus a rich person saved a beautiful lady from the poverty of my friend Jamuu. I mean boy loved that woman but tell me, given a chance to choose between Strungi with Jawbreakers (nguumu) and chicken what would you choose? This is a rhetoric question because we all know the answer.
To earn love, sacrifices are in order. Boy, you have to toil, invest a lot, and of course, the richest investor carries the day. This war is won by wads of notes, not words of have-nots. If you have nothing to offer boy, take a walk and keep walking. I remember I once loved a beautiful woman and trust me being a poet, I vibed her right, for a moment blew her into Ozone with my fast talk. Unfortunately, words were not enough; she left me for a whiter and richer man. One moment I was a darling the next she was daring me to call her.
You remember those novels you read of rich girls loving poor boys, well, trust me they are the ultimate fiction. That world is non-existent, and if you followed closely, the poor boy had to turn it around and somehow be rich. See, I am not discouraging the likes of poor men like Jamuu to give up, I am not heartless. I am just encouraging them to work harder, prioritize on development. And if for some ungodly reasons they can’t keep their pens dry, there are lots of unused cartons in the dustbins, draw thence until they can afford a book. Just saying…
