Many organizations are adopting to have diverse people in the workplace
Many organizations are adopting to have diverse people in the workplace. Diversity Is what makes an individual who they are. With this new adaptation in organizations, it is impossible to escape the topic of how we can effectively work with people who differ from us from in one way or the other. Diversity is significant not only at personal interactions but also at organizational levels. Diverse people have diverse perceptions, ideas, and experiences that, when put together, lead to the organization’s universal success and productivity. Only organizations that are open and appreciates transparency, rewards, and learns will be inclusive of diverse people. These organizations have a broader view of their vision and varied way of achieving it (O’BYLE, 2020). They also contain broader markets and boatloads of resources.
The homogeneous ones do not experience these benefits experienced in heterogeneous organizations. This is because the latter have narrow perceptions due to a lack of different experiences, for instance. A group of people who are used to resolve an issue, in particular, may be resistant to welcoming new ways of addressing the same. The homogenous groups may also find it challenging to work with clients from different cultures or have diverse views due to a lack of experience of different cultures and, thus, a narrow market (Solidoro, 2009, p. xx).
However, learning how to work with diverse people is very significant at the personal and organizational levels. Primary relationships determine the success of organizational success. Therefore, before interacting with a particular culture, it is good to have intensive research about the customs and language used. This includes the non-verbal cues that are acceptable. It is good to consider taking classes online and doing assignments, traveling across different countries, and making new friends (Solidoro, 2009, p. xx). Recognizing and accepting self-biasness and working on them will nullify prejudice and stereotyping that may bring conflicts when interacting with diverse others. These are the steps and considerations to take when coming from a homogenous town. The above steps will help one overcome differences brought by gender, generational, and even cultural diversity.
