So we’re starting our master’s of social work online as we speak, what did they do?
Jennifer: (41:33)
It was a lot about setting the tone and culture. We want you to get to know each other. We had some very specific activities. We wanted the students to do very early on when they started interviewing each other. Rob heard about this when we were talking to Anne. And in some cases building in some structure around forcing them to get to know each other. And then that naturally occurred after that.
Rob: (42:00)
I didn’t realize you’d already admitted your first class. When did you did you do that?
Jennifer: (42:03)
Oh yeah, that was… They started in August.
Rob: (42:07)
Wow.
Jennifer: (42:08)
We’ve already finished our first set of seven weeks.
Rob: (42:12)
Wow. Well, you’re into your second step.
Jennifer: (42:16)
Mm-hmm,

I’ll be damn right now. How damn. How many is in your cohort?
Jennifer: (42:21)
12.

Well, and that’s what you wanted, right?
Jennifer: (42:23)
Well, we were at 10. I don’t know if you remember that and we decided to move up to 12 because we could handle that with our clinical rotations. And it’s an easier number to divide into groups three or four is easier than a ten.
Rob: (42:43)

How many applicants did you have?
We had 160-
Dale: (42:48)
Oh my God.
Jennifer: (42:48)
And then about 80 of them were actually qualified.
Rob: (42:53)
That’s still big.
Dale: (42:56)
And, that begs the question. And I know you’re the accrediting body is really, really, really tight, but is there a cash, is there a greater demand and what you’re going to graduate?
Jennifer: (43:08)
Yes, there definitely is.
Dale: (43:10)
So is the accrediting body looking at allowing new programs to start?
Jennifer: (43:14)
Yes. They have approved, I think they’ve approved three more, four more sets us. So we’re up to 50 programs now.
Dale: (43:24)
Pretty big.
Jennifer: (43:26)
That’s still not a lot. That’s basically 500 student graduates every year. Which when you were here, Dale, that was about 420. Okay. So it’s a little bit of growth, but it’s not here.
Rob: (43:39)
And how many openings are there nationally?
Jennifer: (43:42)
So right now it’s a three to one, three to four to one jobs per graduate. So three to four times the demand per workforce,
Dale: (43:53)
well, I was listening to the news this morning and they interviewed a genetic counselor at University of Cincinnati, right across the river here. So I went to look at it. Oh, there’s a genetic counselor. I don’t know how many students they graduate, but that’s, it’d be interesting to talk to their program and see since they’re in school of medicine over there.
Jennifer: (44:15)
Yeah. And they’re face to face. They’re very traditional.
Dale: (44:18)
I bet they are. Well, do you have any out in this area?
Jennifer: (44:23)
I don’t. I have a student in Kansas and a student in Florida.
Dale: (44:30)

And about as close as I get.
