ThHealthscape has provided a scenario where they can use word of mouth as an excellent marketing strategy for the clinic.
The customers that the atrium serves are patients, families of patients, and guest that come to Mayo Clinic (Aase, 2009). The satisfaction and value of the experience for these groups of people is immeasurable as hope, joy, and support given to patients and families at the atrium are portrayed. People from all walks of life come to Mayo Clinic to find wellness, and indeed they find the healing they desire. As music is played, there is happiness that flows in the atmosphere. The people who play the music, though sick and old looking, play with skill and energy associated with the youth. The music is entertaining for visitors and patients, which has created a feeling of hope, compassion, and kindness. There is no barrier to kindness and compassion at this clinic, which makes Mayo Clinic a healing facility and a place where many lessons can be learned. One lesson learned in this clinic from the atrium, and the events that unfold in this clinic is that it reminds us of the value of offering a smile to one another. This smile should be first to yourself and also to all that you meet (Sturgis, 2016). Another valuable lesson that customers get is the value of uplifting words. The environment gives off a positive vibe (Sturgis, 2016). The music brightens the customers’ day as the music that flows from the piano brings people together as the customers share their troubles and give an encouraging word to each other.
Mayo Clinic’s environment helps patients and family members experience kindness and compassion. An event that involved an older man playing the piano who had his wife in surgery and he was waiting for her. He was an older adult and had a patient going through something bad, but the man played a happy song. This song brought a lot of joy and the people who had him playing (Sturgis, 2016). Hospitals and clinics, in general, are places that have high stress. Patients and their families are affected by the serious illness and conditions that the patients have. Patients This is because they experience a lot of pain and the procedures they go through during treatment and the medical interventions they are going through. Thus, the piano provides a conducive environment and appropriate distraction to ease stress in patients, patients’ families, and the physicians as relaxation are achieved (Dieser, Edginton, & Ziemer, 2017).
There are a positive distraction and social support that comes in handy to the patients and their families. Research has shown that with such a positive environment, patients acquire self-determination, which has helped them during their treatment process (Dieser, Edginton, & Ziemer, 2017). They can acquire hope, and this is critical for their health improvement as they get to feel are in control over something concerning them as everything else has become chaotic and out of control (Dieser, Edginton, & Ziemer, 2017). The music also played assists all that grace this institution to be optimistic as they face their different challenges. Psychological uplifts are also experienced with the Mayo Clinic environment as people get to mingle and socialize as they listen to the music being played, as illustrated by the older man who was playing the happy song.
It is without a doubt that Mayo Clinic is an institution that is using contemporary medicine, which essentially entails caring more for the patients with the ailments rather than the disease that ails them. The marketing strategy that Mayo Clinic uses is a good marketing strategy as clearly illustrated has increased customer value, customer satisfaction, and loyalty. Mayo Clinic, with its atrium, is going above and beyond the shortcomings of medicine and is people-oriented. It has indeed curbed loneliness and stress that is associated with dying. Everyone who is at this facility can feel at home as the clinic environment is friendly and becomes familiar to patients as they come in with ease, accept their current conditions and able to leave the clinic with ease.
