MEDIATION CASE
During the course you participated in several different role play simulation experiences. The Mediation Case option requires you to develop a mediation case that can be used in role play simulations. In order to write a mediation case that can be used for role play simulations you must first determine the mediation context. I would like you to create a case that is of interest to you or related to challenging situations you have personally experienced in your life that would have benefited from mediation. You do not need to provide those specific details but build a simulation case from your experience. While doing this, remember the issues you came across during your simulation practices and what information you would have liked to have to help the mediation progress to resolution. Once you have made your decision about context, select a minimum of 6 sources from this course (you may use information gathered by groups for the mediation context assignment) or even beyond our course materials (these may be academic research articles, articles by practitioners such as those found on Mediate.com, websites, books, etc.). These sources should be included in your references. In Part 1 of your paper, you should indicate the context or type of mediation your case reflects. Additionally, you should briefly summarize the contents of your sources, the major points made in the sources, and an explanation of how information from these sources influenced your mediation case. This section can look like a traditional literature/research review, or you can list each source and summarize separately—the choice is yours. Give enough context to your personal experience to explain your use of this for a mediation case. In Part 2 of the paper you are to develop a mediation case that can be used for mediation role play simulations. Your case should include an overview of the case and specifics—this information would be provided to the mediator and the observers in a role play practice session. Your case should also include well-developed roles for participants that include a desсrіption of the person and their basic concerns, motivations, and (if appropriate) selected sсrіpted comments. You must have at least 2 participants but may include as many participants as you deem relevant. The cases used during the class simulations provide a format/example for you in developing this aspect of the assignment. However, your cases should be better and more developed. Part 3 of the assignment is to create a processing/discussion guide. This guide may vary significantly depending upon the context and mediation case you develop. Think of this guide as information that a teacher and/or coach might use in discussing the mediation case and debriefing with participants. Part 3 should include questions and information that will enhance participants’ processing and learning. It may include important points to cover, specific mediation strategies to discuss and highlight, and additional supplemental information for participants such as readings, Internet links, and the like.
