Discussion
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni who lived between 6th March 1475 and 18th February 1564 was a poet, skilled painter, drawer and sculptor (Lazzeri, 2018). On the other hand, Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci who lived between 1452 and 1519 delved in a variety of disciplines for instance music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, and even palaeontology (Vasari, Bandello, Giovio, da Vinci, & di Castiglione, 2019). A review recognizes Da Vinci as the pioneer in the understanding of the laws of friction and its application. However, the review states he may have misled others with his experimental apparatus and measurements in the use of friction in mechanical systems (Hutchings, 2016). Leonardo, who was a vegetarian, adored modest living and often switched patrons. His remarkable art included the famous Mona Lisa and The Last Supper and is known to have invented the perspective known as “crying out loud”. His wild and clever imagination aided in weapon design though he was strongly against violence.
Michelangelo came from a renowned astute and respected family, preferred painting than acquiring education and was already an apprentice at age 13. However, he attended the Humanist academy from 1490 to 1492 (Bambach, Barry, Caglioti, Elam, Marongiu, & Mussolin, 2017). On the other hand, Da Vinci was from a humble background. Da Vinci was born out of wedlock and was not allowed to study for a respectable job. Both had significant resistance from their families, but this didn’t stop them from being the best at what they did. Da Vinci’s unique techniques in design and construction focused on hospitaland colours, whereas Michelangelo focused on the form and volume of his sculptures.
Michelangelo was very religious and condemned corruption in the Vatican though he allegedly accepted their commissions whereas Da Vinci was not religious. He was more of an outlander in matters religion and preferred deluging in science. Michelangelo was also into poetry though Da Vinci was more into psychology than him. Both were never married or had kids and were conflicted in their sexual orientation with Da Vinci, who was openly gay and Michelangelo who was charged for allegedly sodomizing boys. Both are known to have had psychological disturbances, with Michelangelo exhibiting symptoms of bipolar and Da Vinci exhibiting symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder.
Conclusion
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni and Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci came from different backgrounds, had different opinions about a variety of topics, had weakness and strengths. Still, they have left behind a legacy yet to be beaten.
