Modern Psychology
What initially interested me the most about psychology is that one gets to learn about the dynamics of the brain and how it controls how we feel, think and act. This interests me because, considering that the brain is central to the body and controls everything in the body, there is a lot to learn from it. Personally, I would be interested to learn the relationship between mental processes and human behaviour. For instance, there might be mental processes that prompt a child to start acting up. While many parents may ignore it, it is important to consider that there may be more to it than a children’s norm to act up. This is why I was initially interested in psychology because the discipline gets to dig deeper and make connections between the brain that the behaviours of human beings.
Most Appealing Perspectives of Modern Psychology
One of my most appealing perspectives of modern psychology is the biological perspective. This perspective is one of the most appealing to me because it explains the biological processes that influence an individual’s behaviours. It is interesting to learn what it is about people’s genetics that makes them behave in the manner that they do. The second most appealing perspective of modern psychology is the behavioural perspective. This perspective is appealing to me because it deals with the behaviours and actions of an individual that can be observed. In this perspective, cognitive processes do not apply, and one draws conclusions from what he/she can observe and learn about people’s behaviour through observation is fun to me. Lastly, the sociocultural perspective is similarly a modern psychology perspective that is appealing to me. People are influenced significantly by other people; for instance, a teenage girl may be influenced by her peers to start abusing drugs. Interacting with other people is essential in one’s life, and this is an aspect of this perspective that makes it appealing to me.
