Motivation.
The idea shared in Dan Pink’s TedTalk on motivation is that there exists a great mismatch between science and business notions. The primary idea is, there are those that if rewarded often destroy creativity. The secrete to high is not reward and punishments but rather the invisible intrinsic drive and urge to perform and do things mainly for their own sake. And the drive to do things because they matter. He notes that what science and business knows and does are two different things (Bell, Panayiotou, & Sayers, 2019). According to what science knows, that those rewards that happened during the 20th century and those motivators we think are a natural part of business, do work but only in a surprisingly narrow band of circumstances.
The three concepts autonomy, mastery and purpose would not be difficult to apply to all types of jobs. First, autonomy, the great desire to direct our own lives is very significant during different jobs performance (Bell, Panayiotou, & Sayers, 2019). This is because all humans require their freedom to perform better whereby modern approach can increase autonomy by simply giving employees a personal project such as taking a day off their normal work to develop whatever they so wish as long it not related to normal work. Secondly, the urge to develop skills and get better (mastery) can increase productivity. It will not be difficult to apply the mastery concept in all jobs because nearly everybody would want to get better and develop skills in their various specializations ((Bell, Panayiotou, & Sayers, 2019). Finally, the need to do what we do for the reasons bigger than ourselves (purpose) can be easily applied to all jobs because it motivates people to do a good job and achieve greater professional success.
When I get the opportunity of being a manager at the hotel and restaurant, I will motivate the employees acknowledging the employees’ achievement. The acknowledgment of a job from the top manager will mean more to an employee. Secondly, I will encourage creativity by simply giving ideas on the next restaurant retreat or team building exercise (Quadri, 2019). . Finally, I will encourage all employees’ ideas without shunting away ideas or suggestions no matter how silly or meaningless they seem to be.
Conclusion.
Employees need the motivation to increase the productivity of the business. When employees are allowed to be more motivated by autonomy, mastery and purpose, then the business can be stronger and maybe change the world.
